Treasure Hunt

Flea market visits are year around, but here in San Antonio, TX the temperature and the humidity is unbearable from June to October, making it impossible to enjoy that pastime. The last few weeks has seen temperatures drop significantly to a lovely 65-70 in the early morning and 90ish by 2:00 pm. Yes, 90 is not that comfortable, but without the humidity, it’s perfect especially in the shade.

We took advantage of the early morning temps and headed to our favorite flea market called “Busey’s”. Busey’s is a rustic, 10-acre parking lot with buildings and winding rows of stalls. Parts of it are covered. But in open air. Some shops are in a row of storage type buildings and others are under tents out in the open.

We always start with the tents, because these people are selling a huge variety of junk! It’s like a treasure hunt for me! I have a few things in mind that I like to search for and other times I just browse. Lately I look for anything Peppa Pig. I have a 4 yr old granddaughter and we love to play Peppa. If you haven’t priced toys In a while, especially kids toys, well, that’s why I stick to flea markets as much as possible. I found six figures for $5.00 and saved a ton as Peppa figures aren’t sold individually and apparently, they’re made of gold.

We also like looking for interesting vintage furniture pieces, like tables, stools, clocks or plain ol’ great deals! I see a lot of my childhood on those shelves and the memories are just too sweet. As I was admiring a little side table marked $50, the seller said he would knock it down to $35. Now, I’m not a good haggler and I felt this little jewel was worth that price, so I didn’t bargain, I just pulled out my cash! Bam! And I was lugging it around the 10-acre market for the next two hours. Great.

There are folks who sell that have been there for years – you can tell – you know what I mean. There are people who buy wholesale and have their retail flea market mall shops such as, women’s bags, cowboy boots, Funko Pop and superhero figures, sports attire, and Asian imports to name a few.

So then we get to the food! Secretly I think I go there just for the funnel cakes, but they have everything, except Turkey legs! (dang!) Anything you want to drink, alcohol, non-alcohol, coffee(s), all varieties of cokes, water, slushes, horchata, fruity drinks, seriously not hard to find something to eat or drink!

Between the 4 of us, we got out of there for less than $200.00, and that’s a pretty good day!

(If you want to see a real flea market, Google Canton, Texas.)

Have a great weekend!

Tami

Hi Tami, I like your post. I love Flea Markets I have been in years always busy and don't have the time to go. Like it has been said "one man's junk is another man's treasure". You can get a lot of great deals there which is great.

It is so true!
I've bought junk and I've donated a lot of stuff I felt was junk!
I mostly like looking for a "treasure"!

Tami

Hi Tami, I agree with you because you never know what you are going to find. I had gotten a lot of stuff from flea markets, garage sales, yard sales, and the side of the road.

That is so awesome I can't believe I found someone who like that kind of thing.

Sounds like a great time was had by all Tami!

I haven't been to a good flea market in many a year though...

Love it, Tami! I used to frequent Trader's Village in Grand Prairie, Texas when I used to live there!

I've got so much stuff to sell now that I simple stay away! Great stuff though!

That's GREAT! I have too much stuff too, but I give some away and sell some things too. Either way, it is quite enjoyable!
