The Creation of a Wordle
There is a trend happening in the world of websites, speeches, databases, etc., called a Tag Cloud, (aka, Wordle, Word Cloud, Weighted List) I’m pretty sure I’ve seen these before, say, on a coffee cup or T Shirt, but I didn’t know they had an actual purpose. I just thought it was clever artistry.
A Tag Cloud is the output of words from a given source, resulting in an image created by words extracted from that source.
What the [expletive]!?
Ok, so there are Tag Cloud generator programs where you enter the URL to your website or tag words for your site.
The program then either goes to the site and picks out all the words it deems to define the URL, or uses the tags you entered – just depends on the program.
It then, arranges those single words in a shape of your choosing - provided by the program.
The program uses font type, size and color to emphasize the words relative to their importance to the subject of the URL.
It can look like this:

The bigger and bolder the word, the more “weight” it has with respect to the subject matter.
The intent of the Tag Cloud is to give a visitor to your site, a kind of preview of what they are going to encounter. Conducting visual analysis using Word Clouds, has evolved into the most widely used statistical tool. The concept is used widely in the development of children’s education.
WordPress with the block editor, has a Tag Cloud creator. However, it wants to use your predefined tags as material, so you have to set tags it seems. In the edit mode of your post, click on a block insert icon as if you were going to define a paragraph or columns, but use the search function to find Tag Cloud. Click on that option and follow the prompts. You can also type /tag on a line and the box will appear.
Google offered these free programs to try:
Wordart
Wordclouds
Word It Out
ABCya
Tag Crowd
MonkeyLearn
Jason Davies Word Cloud
They are all straight forward. Some have more bells and whistles than others, but all are easy to navigate.
Have Fun!!

Hi, Tami
I have used this tech a few times for website articles. Tag Clouds can be very evocative.
Now that Google is developing OCR (optical character recognition) for crawling images, it could potentially present the search engine with confusing information.
Just food for thought.
Where interesting post Tami. Whilel this is fun. This is also very scary as technology grows and changes our future.

An excellent message here, Tami! I might have to do this again! I know that Diane Scorpio blogged about something like this last year, I believe! Have fun with them, and I might have to revisit it too!
Jeff
Thank you!
I was using google trends and wordle was all over the place.
I'd never heard the term so I looked it up!
I'm new here, so unfortunately, I didn't see Diane's blog.
Maybe some of the other newbies will find it enlightening!
I understand, Tami, but your post is as relevant today as hers was then!
Well done!
Jeff
