What vs. Who
Unfortunately, with big dreams and a desire to make money right away, too many beginners focus on WHAT they want to sell and HOW they want to make money. What they forget is to spend time on WHO they want or need to sell to.
Time needs to be dedicated to all areas, but in the beginning do not focus so much on the money aspect.. Focusing on WHO will better guide you to writing for your audience.
Spending money on design and development for websites needs to have a definite place for HOW you will help people find your site or no purchases will be made.
Many of the make money quick companies totally ignore this part of the process. The audience should be considered first and it is different for every site.
When offered a ready made website, we sometimes jump to the conclusion that, because it is made by a professional, it will be successful. A company may offer you a ready made website but then they do not teach you how to attract and convert customers, which is the most challenging part of the process.
Put real though into WHO you audience is going to be, or all the bells and whistles in the world will not make you a dime!
WA puts great consideration on who your audience will be - follow the lessons, patiently, in order and you will become successful. Skipping ahead and trying to make money first is a big mistake.

It really does apply to all of us, but as a newbie it is even more difficult to concentrate on who. Build it and they will come will never be true of the internet webpage!

Your customer is your money Kary. Customers will put up with a lot of silly things from us, but if you have no customers, there will definitely be no money. I have to remind myself too. It is easy to get carried away with so many technical things we have to master! I know you will do well, because you stop to remind yourself of WHO your customer is!
Trialynn, You are so right. On TV, we see so many places offering to make your website for you for free. Then, there is a monthly charge. People are lulled into that "I have a website, Now I am in business!" which is the worst place to be.
I spoke to a really good friend who I had set up a business website before. His domain expired and we go to talking. He said that he didn't think his website did him any good.
I said to him - Unfortunately because I didn't know how to drive traffic to your site, it got lost in the vast ocean of pages out there. I did tell him I am learning and when he is ready, I will get him up and running again. He is very happy with that.
So happy you can help a friend! How easy it is to be lulled in by companies that have their eye only on their dollar!!
