When you go to your permalink setting window you will see a box entitled CUSTOM STRUCTURE

This is to provide a way of creating your own custom permalink structures, the reason for this is that every website is different, a NEWS site for example would want a different structure to its permalink because it is publishing content daily so the date it is published becomes very important to a news site

You may also decide you customize your Permalink structure slightly different for a variety of reasons, so if do want to customize them I will show how

Custom permalink structures available to use

  • %postname% - The slug or name of your post
  • %post_id% - The unique id of the post
  • %category% - The category the post is assigned to
  • %year% - The year that the post was published
  • %monthnum% - The month the article was published
  • %day% - The day the article was published

So above are the various structures you can use in the custom structure box

(%postname%/ >> http://yourwebsite.com/latestpost/)

(%category%%postname% >>www.yourwebsite.com/seo/on-page-seo)

(%year%%monthnum%%day%%postname% >www.yourwebsite.com/2016/03/02/postname/latestnews...)

Above are some example of customized permalinks structures, to customize permalinks put the custom structure in the custom structure box and click the radio button beside it and this will give you global permalink structure settings for all your content

You can also use the following tags, though most website don't use these

  • %hour% – The hour the article was published
  • %minute% – The minute the article was published
  • %second% – The second the article was published
  • %author% – The author name

This most popular permalinks are

(%postname%/ >> http://yourwebsite.com/latestpost/)

This is the one recommended at WA its simple effective and it gets your keywords in the URL

(%category%%postname% >>www.yourwebsite.com/seo/on-page-seo)

If you want to get your category in as well, it can add another keyword in addition to the post name so it has slight benefit

The category tag and base

If you leave these fields blank your permalinks will use the default settings, I leave these blank and it sets up the default category permalink.

Here is an example of one of my category permalinks

http://wpclinik.com/category/html/

This permalink is created automatically by leaving the fields in the catogory base blank

I think you could have worded this better. You might have yourself on too high a pedestal looking down on the rest of us. That's what you left me with , I am sure there are more people that feel the same.

I certainly do not look down on anybody here or anywhere else

After being in therapy for being abused to the point of suicide looking down on people is the last thing I ever do

I try to explain things simply due to the fact that most people do not explain things very well online

I have been in WA for 18 months and I have lots of training and blogs

I have only ever been told how much people like my training and blogs

I am sorry this training made you feel this way

I help a lot of people on WA I may not get it right every time but at least I help

Better to try than be selfish with my time
I put a lot of time in training and blogs to help those who do not understand things

I never look down on people ever

Great training. Just a suggestion about the gaps between the paragraphs. I think the gaps are too wide. That's my view anyway.

To me, the focus is not the link, but the training. Anyway, I don't what others will think about.

I appreciate the training, just some spell-checks are needed.

Training is supposed to be self-contained and should not be used for self-promotion. What you are doing here is very much against WA rules. Did you read instructions?

Really? I see at least 2 links to your site, one is about 15 cm above.

They are not links they are example I am using to teach the subject it would be nice if people like you were a little more grateful for free training rather than complain all the time why don't you spend some more time helping others

I will change the links to keep you happy

Wrong answer, remove the links to obey the rules which everyone is supposed to follow. Without rules we have anarchy.

You can explain url by simply using WA's url, no need for self-promotion.

All links have been disabled, a simple mistake

People always have their own views. You have given the right answer. What matters is the focus of the training. Thanks...

Maluth, I do not think you should put yourself in the position of a judge here. I am not presenting my views, there are written rules, you'd better read them.

Not really. I simply shared my view of the whole thing. It's up to the person who will click the links.

All I need is the valuable training. No need to judge anyone right or wrong. My point is as clear as it is.

I don't think he is promoting anything in the post. He would have said something like "click here to see my website", but I have never seen such a thing.

By the way, anyone can still promote their content on their profile page--My Websites. If I need to have a look at his services or products, I still have to get them from there, not from his training links.

Again, this is all about how I think, and does not apply to everyone.

I didn't feel like anything in your training was self-promotion. When we create training, we need to use examples. I have often used my own sites for examples in training I have created and never been told it was self-promotion.
I (and I'm sure Barry is the same) never intend to promote when creating training. In fact, it doesn't matter to me if anyone from WA visits any of my sites. I don't (and I'm sure Barry doesn't either) use WA as a sales platform but rather as an opportunity to pay it forward. To help others with the knowledge I have gained.
Any training, especially one explaining technical knowledge, would not be as informative without visual examples.
But that's just my opinion. Everyone is entitled to their own. :)
