I followed training on another video, but when editing a menu which I had submenus, the very top one will not change to submenu, can anyone help please? Thank you!

Could you be more specific? What have you done? And what do you mean “the top one will not change to submenu”? Screenshots could help you as well

Go to your menu editor, select the menu you wish to adjust.
Drag the submenus to the right of the main link above it and it will show as a submenu
If you want a top menu item that is not clickable, Create a custom link with the # as the link and whatever text you need for the menu item. Then place the submenu items below the custom link and indent them to the right. In the video, I call this a dead menu item.
