In a similar way you can choose your preferred text editor if you don’t want use the default Notepad application.
When you’re done, launch the application … and don’t panic! You might see a black screen for for a second – which will disappear automatically -, but nothing else …
As I said, don’t panic! The application is functional and is there, running in the background. Check out the new green icon in your Windows taskbar and you’ll see it.
Click the green icon and select “phpMyAdmin”:

phpMyAdmin is a web based application used to manage MySQL databases and will help you to create a blank MySQL database WordPress can use. The phpMyAdmin login screen will open in a new browser window. By default, the username will be “root”, and you need to leave the password field blank:
Once you’re in, select “Databases” in the top left corner in order to access the page where you can create a new database for WordPress. Just choose the desired name and click on the “Create” button:
The new MySQL database will be created instantly:

... Jay mentions this occasionally in some of his trainings as well -- 'sandbox' he calls it, however, it's on a siterubix, i think and that is still 'live' isn't it? ..
