Point the Domain to Wealthy Affiliate’s DNS

This is an alternative to transferring the domain name to Wealthy Affiliate and costs nothing.

You have to go into your domain name at its existing registrar’s site and change the DNS (domain name servers) to those used by Wealthy Affiliate.

This will allow you to build your website at Wealthy Affiliate based on the domain name, without moving it from the existing registrar.

Again, I will use Namecheap to illustrate this, but all registrars will have this facility, just with their own navigation to get there.

As before, go to Manage for the selected domain name.

But this time, just scroll down to the section labelled Nameservers.

Click the down-arrow next to Nameservers, select Custom DNS and enter Wealthy Affiliate’s nameservers, which are ns1.mywahosting.com and ns2.mywahosting.com.

Then click the Save icon (the green tick).

Note: Don’t select Add Nameserver. This is for Web Hosts that use more than two Name Servers. It allows you to enter the extra ones.

Once you have saved the Name Servers, they have to be copied to multiple locations across the internet. This is called propagation and can take anything from a couple of hours to as long as 48 hours. However, it usually takes a few hours.

When propagation is complete, then entering your domain name-based website into a browser’s address bar will find and display your website.

However, you don’t have to wait for propagation in order to start building your website at Wealthy Affiliate.

In Wealthy Affiliate, go to Websites >> Build a Website.

Select the Domain I Ownbutton and proceed to build your website, following the Wealthy Affiliate lessons.

Well, the bad news is that I can't transfer my domain name from Google until June 25, and I can't build a website using my domain name unless I use one of Google's many partners to host it. (WA isn't one of them.)
The good news is that I can use the time to write more content and have a well-populated website when I do start up.

Although you can't transfer your domain name until the non-transfer period is ended, you can redirect its DNS as described in my training. That's all you need to do. As soon as propagation is complete (a few hours, up to 24) you'll be able to build your website at WA.

Contact me if you need more help with this.

Thank you, Phil this exactly what I needed. My domain so happens to be at Namecheap. Either way, you have discussed my options so now I know what to do with my domain name from here. Thanks for sharing this training.

As I said in the training, I think that if you transfer it, you have to pay a registration fee, but it gets added to any remaining time. I'm not 100% sure as I've never transferred a domain name to WA. I always just point the DNS to WA's servers (as also covered in the training).

Thank you Phil, for this training. What if you were trying these website builders who still contact you on the same issue of a website, but had not registered and paid for the domain name? Do you still need to go through this at WA or do you simply build your website and abandon the previous website builders? Please advise.

I'm not sure that I understand the question, Joseph. Are you talking about domain name registrars who want you to use their web hosting to build your website?
If so, just ignore them (opt out of their mailing list so they stop bothering you), point the domain at WA as I cover in the training and build your website here.
If you mean something else, please explain further.
