Things You Must Consider When Choosing Your Domain Name

As said earlier, we currently have nearly 300 registered domain names online out of which yours might be one. As you know, you're competing with the hundreds of thousands of registered domain names out there and you want to stand out with yours, right? That's quite possible though with proven strategies.

When you want to register a domain name with a domain registrar, it's possible to make your first ten searches, yet, without being able to get that name you really wanted. This may be due to the fact that the name you are searching for might have been picked up by someone else. Then you'd need to be careful with the name you will eventually buy lest you get frustrated in the long-run.

Your desired domain name might be so competitive, but if that's what, you strongly believe, will help you rock your blog and stand out among the hundreds of thousands of active domain names out there, then it's worth working about. You may only need to craft and re-craft until you get what you want available in the search. The search challenge must not change your mind from what you really want to blog about to ensure you stand out in the online world.

As explained above, it might be so challenging to get exactly what you want for a long pull from the domain name search, but you could carefully craft your desired name and get something very similar available to what you've desired so far.

When choosing your domain name, here are things you should consider:

  1. Making sure it's readable
  2. Making sure it's remarkable
  3. Choosing the preferred domain extension
  4. Making sure it's unique
  5. Making sure it's SEO relevant
  6. Making sure it's keyword-related
  7. Considering the trademark and copyright perspective

Very good points.
I also look for the previous history of the domain and I use the Wayback Machine for that. https://archive.org/
If the domain has recently been used, I avoid it.
I also try to find a domain that is available as a username on social media.

Thanks for the reading, JHaugland! Your domain name might be unique, but your business name might have been taken and registered for someone else before you chose and this could lead to unwanted legal actions except you use the trademark and copyright electronic search tool to verify that your chosen business name is unique.

When you say, keyword-optimized: do you mean the low hanging key-word that is targeted for the blog?

Yes, though it isn't a taboo if you didn't use it as part of your domain URL, it's great for SEO in case you might not be aware, increasing the possibility of your URL's appearance in search results. And note that your domain name might not necessarily be the same as your blog name. Thanks for getting back, anusuya!

Wish you breakthroughs online!
