4. Pointing Your Domain Name To Your Hosting

The next step is to point your domain name at your webspace. This is the important part that makes sure people actually see your site when they type in your URL.

Since I used 1&1, the WA tutorial for this part is actually very helpful. First you need to log in to the site where you bought the domain name. Once you access your account go to the "Edit DNS Settings" page. Now you will see various options. Click on the Basic DNS Settings box and change it to "My name server" or whatever the similar title is on that site.

Now you will be able to choose the servers you want. To use the WA hosting you need to set the primary server to NS1.MYWAHOSTING.COM and the secondary name server as NS2.MYWAHOSTING.COM. Click OK and now you are done.

It usually takes a while for the server switching process to occur, so be patient. In about a day, it should work fine. Now if you type in your URL in the address bar at the top of your browser and go to that site, it should have a basic Plesk page. It should say something like the page works, but is not configured yet, or something similar. This is a good sign.

Your site works, but there is nothing on it yet. On to the last step.....activating your website.

Hi Whistler,

For someone who is new to the internet marketing industry you seem to be quickly adapting to using the tools of the trade. You did a good job of explaining to a newbie how to get started making a website and getting it up and running. Keep up the good work.
