The main types of accents are as follows: Grave, Acute, Circumflex, Tilde and Umlaut/Trema.

Accents are used in both Uppercase and Lowercase, I will cover both starting with the most common.

Simply put, when creating an accent, press the ALT key and input the letter code.

Example: To input the acute a = á (0225), hold down the ALT key, type 0225 on the numeric keypad, then release the ALT key.

Also common is a Cedilla, the number codes for are:

Ç 0199
ç 0231

If I can't remember the number code (and where I stored my list!) I use the symbol font in Word. They will be there somewhere!
