Well anything really.

I think it is a good idea to try and stick to your original keywords but that is not a hard and fast rule.

Also keep an eye on your images, as with your url people can pin your images to Pinterest making backlinks. If you remove those images it will also make broken links...

Here are some ideas for updating your old content:

  • Check for outdated information such as old contact details, company names or product names that have changed.
  • Check your CTA and see if you can improve it
  • Add more content, elaborate on some topics
  • Add more images where possible
  • Add more relevant internal links (both to this post from other posts and to other posts)
  • Add more external links to high authority websites
  • Embed a Youtube video if it doesn't already have one
  • Optimize your meta title and description

Just remember it is nice to be transparent and add a little note at the bottom stating that this post was originally published on **insert date** and that it has been updated and republished.

Then republish it and share it socially. Send it out in a newsletter and ask members here to leave a comment.

And lastly don't forget to submit it to Google to crawl it again!

Please let me know in the comments if you have any questions or if you just want to chat about this topic.

Thanks for this information! I have only been in just shy of a month now and my website isn't anywhere near where I wan it to be, but I can already see where my posts need to be updated because I've learned new information about writing my content. Sometimes it's a little hard to keep up, but I'm trying! It's all a work in progress.

Awesome training - thanks Lynne!! Oops, I've already changed a few URL's! Will stop doing that immediately!

Yes stop that Lauren! Bad news to do that!

Once you have published it then it is done, leave the url :) I always leave the url to change just before I publish it because I don't always put my keyword in my post title, but I do in my meta title... and the url automatically becomes the post title.

Just make a point of the last thing you ALWAYS do before publishing is double check your url. Everything else you can change...

Hi Michelle

Yes and you would be with all there is to learn! Just do your best and keep moving forward and adding new content. Like I said in this training updating old content is something you will need to do on a regular basis anyway and it will help you... so just do it!

If you are struggling with anything just let me know and I'll see if I can help you.
