Categories and Tags in WordPress
The term categories refer to ways of representing a group of interrelated ideas. They are the broadest way of grouping content in WordPress. Considering the broad nature of categories,a post can belong to more than one category in your website. What is most important is accessibility for your readers; this is the essence of aligning post articles to categories.
Tags are ways to denote a specific article or post by using keywords. It is majorly about creating a phrase that describes an article. They are like indexes which are to help users find articles with a website.
Permit me to make an example of this training material you are reading. If I am to assign it to a category, I can assign it to a category like blogging, Content marketing. But if I am to create tags, I will be considering phrases like "tags in WordPress", "categories and tags", etc.
In WordPress, while all articles have a category, not all articles have tags. It is a default setting in WordPress to assign post articles without category to uncategorized. This accounts for why some bloggers will rename their uncategorized as miscellaneous.

Thanks for another great post. Something Someone brought up the question of categories and tags during Jay's training on Friday. Jay said it is better to only use categories and not bother with tags anymore. That in his opinion tags were something of the past. I guess visitors to sites are not using tags
Best regards
