Google Analytics Filter Pattern Expressions

In the old days, we would to this one domain at a time. As you've seen from the .HTAccess method, that could be quite a pain in the butt.

So, here's a cool way to exclude several domains with on Filter Pattern.

First, remember that Exclude option I showed you on the previous screen?

Here's a close up:

Okay, in the previous example, I only had one domain in the Filter Pattern box: semalt.com

Here, you'll see several.

Here's what the code or syntax should appear like:

darodar.|semalt.|buttons-for-website|blackhatworth|ilovevitaly|prodvigator|cenokos.|ranksonic.|adcash.|simple-share-buttons.|social-buttons.

This is how you code it with multiple sites, simply separated with the " | " -- pipe symbol, no spaces needed.

Block the Bots

Another cool thing you can do is to block bots and other spiders with a specific filter without harming your website. This was produced by the Google team recently....

Re-Click your Admin tab at the top of your Google Analytics screen:

Then, look over to the right and select the View Settings option

Scroll down a bit and you'll see the bots exclusion as highlighted in the image below:

Then, simply click the Save button and you're done!

Okay, as you have learned, the bots and spiders will skew your Google Analytics stats. So, If you enable the option to filter bots, you will very likely see a considerable drop, (quite possibly a significant drop) in traffic to your site....Right????

But, your numbers will be much more accurate henceforth and evermore!

Did you finish this entire training? OMG! Good for you!

I hope it was helpful, it did take a few days to research, test, tweak and adjust!

Please leave your comments and questions below!

Cheers,

pj

Hey Peej, great training as always bro! This one is a wee bit too advanced for me at the moment my friend. I was still able to understand everything though, that's the sign of a great tutor. I have bookmarked it for the future. Thanks for continuing to bring us all along!
