Our Base Image

Here is the same image that we used for the cropping lesson, as you can see it is a screenshot of my image opened in Paint. When creating a training here your images should not be wider then 540 pixels. This image here is 1019 pixels wide.

So using this example, lets shrink the image down to the appropriate size. To do so we need to first click on the Resize option in Paint as shown below.

Now once you have clicked on there, you will get a box that looks like this:

As you can see there are two options for resizing your image, Percentage or Pixels. First we will discuss the Pixels.

Since we know that we need our image width to be no bigger then 540 pixels all we have to do is type that in the Horizontal field. In this case we would replace the 1019 with 540.

As you can see after I typed the 540 into the Horizontal field it automatically figured out what the Vertical field should be. This is because of the check in the Maintain aspect ratio box. This keeps the image in perspective without distorting it. Then all you have to do is hit OK and you are done.

The Percentage method is basically the same process and just increases or decreases the image in size by the percentage that you type in. So if you want to make it half as small you just type in 50%. If you want to make the image twice as big, you would type in 200%.

Thanks James. You have a much newer version of Paint than I do, but I may have to upgrade. I do most of my work with PhotoShop, but Paint loads up much faster, and for simple jobs like resizeing and cropping it would be the best tool to use. Thanks again.

Thanks Rick I appreciate your feedback. I know there are lots of other programs, but few are as simple and easy to use as Paint. I use Paint for the simple easy jobs and other tools for when I need to do more.

Thanks Chris. Funny part is I almost skipped that part and then remembered it at the last moment. First three comments here all pointed out the same thing.

You could do that in Gimp. It's OpenSource so it's free (works exactly as Photoshop) Also you could find a lot of tutorials how to use Gimp on YouTube. Hope that helps.
