Planning Steps

I have always found it easier to write anything, if I plan how I am going to do it. I recommend this approach, particularly for new writers because it actually makes the material flow easier and prevents 'block' in the writing process.

Here are the steps I would typically use for a Blog post:

  1. Select a broad title
  2. Refine with keyword research
  3. Populate template headings
  4. Write in any order
  5. Select supporting images or other media
  6. Last but not least

The Title

My assumption is that if you are here already then you have probably already conquered the niche selction process, but just in case that is not so you should, before continuing this training, go to these two resources and be clear about what your niche is. It will make this a lot easier:

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/selecting-a-niche/a...

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/hamish58/blog/niche-one-stop...

Once you have your niche, then assuming you have used the 10 titles methods, referred to in the, "Selecting a Niche' tutorial, you will already have 10 raw titles to start you off.

Now take one of those titles and turn it into a keyword or contain a keyword within it.

For instance in the example below I started searching for steampunk clothing, which is clearly quite competitive, but I did not have to go too much further to see 5 entries down that by using ebay steampunk clothing I could get a better keyword and a prospective affiliate route to take advantage of at the same time.

Now that you have your title and you have matched it to your keywords you are ready to think about your content.......

Your process is similar to what I do as well! It took me a few months to figure it out, though.

I will say that having the templet is a game-changer. I try my best always to follow it. The other thing I recently did was upgrade to a grammar checker (I think that has improved my writing A LOT). I think I'm okay at writing, but this helps with the tenses as well as spelling.

I think your training is an excellent reminder for some of us and will be a fantastic resource for people new to WA. Thanks!

Good Morning Hamish,

This is a great lesson and it will be helpful to a lot of people, I am sure.
My approach to writing a post is a little different, but that might also be because I do not promote WA and neither do I write a review.
For both my websites, I write about what I find interesting.

I read, hear, or see something and that activates my grey cells.
Having the idea, I start thinking about the buildup.
I write my post on Words and then transfer it to draft on my website. Get the H2 and the H3 and the other little details. I find my pictures and video.

For my title I have been using Pedros tool all these years. Now that Grammarly does not function anymore after updating to 5.4 WordPress I have been using ProWritingAid these last days and am happy with it as it is more complete than Grammarly and also free.

Stay safe and healthy,

Taetske

Excellent, Hamish. Oh, BTW, forgot to mention I use Hemingway Editor. It’s 20 bucks. I like to use Grammarly too. I mainly use that when working with my Deaf academic students at Gallaudet University (gallaudet.edu). I am their English writing tutor. Hemingway Editor helps writers to learn how to write concise sentences. Both software does its purposes. Thanks for setting up this plan and format. I will be using this as a guide. I have set up my own template in Word Doc. Now, you provided an easier and a simplistic methods to get started. Thanks a ton.

Anyone can use it. It’s used by writers and bloggers. If they want their writing to be simple, that software can help tighten up wordy content. You can check it out. I use the Mac desktop and has WP integrations already set up.
