Unable to see the "Protocol Handler" icon , so let's do this another way.

~ Ok, so let's click on the Chrome menu icon, at the top right in the browser. (see top right arrow, fig 3)

~ Choose "settings"

OK, almost there

~ Click on 'Show Advanced settings" at the bottom of the screen

~ Now under "Privacy", click "Content Settings" (fig 4)

~ In the window that appears, scroll down to "Handlers", now click on "Manage Handlers"

~ Select "Gmail" from the "mailto" dropdown

~now click"Done"

Well that's it, I hope this helped getting you back on the road and running. If for any reason you can't seem to find a "Protocol Handler' option, you can install Google's "mailto" extension here;
