I can see that this was written in 2012. I am beginning to understand about QSR and competition. I believe that keyword ranking is still relevant and am trying to find some keywords for my local business. I was told by a marketing rep called HIBU that I need to blog for a reputable blogging group and it could help my web rankings. This use to be true but I thought that was an outdated method. Is it? I see that you have mentioned streetarticles.com is that something that you still recommend? and is it useful for today? I have already written an article with some information that I want to share with our customers on our web page but I have not written it for keywords so I am trying to search keywords to see if any fit this article. I can see this is backwards from what is suggested. But I had an idea and thought it would be helpful to customers. I hope that I can adjust your suggestions to make this work. Tell me what you think. Thanks Robin.

Streetarticles is no longer active. However, post content, content and more content whether you've done keyword research or not. If you've got content, post it and don't worry about the keywords. Then, in the future, continue writing using the long-tail keyword method. The most important thing is relevant content to your niche.

Thank your for the reply. Glad to have a confirmation for what I was already thinking. I have now revised my article and have it ready to post. Going to find images to post with it. I am looking at my theme to figure out how to have a blog page. There is a static page and a menu to other pages for the site. I can see for the industry that I am in others have a blog associated with their webpages. I was thinking that if I could have a blog then I could easily add more content without interrupting the flow of information there now. This way google would see that there is fresh content always being added to the account. There really is not a good way to get customer interaction for the type of website this is so am hoping to generate more views so google sees it as active and helpful. I was concerned the the marketing company was giving me outdated information that was why I asked my question. That and I needed a review about key words. I should mention this is a website for a local business that has been in business for a long time and use to advertise with yellow pages. Yellowpages being out of date we are trying to find new ways to reach our current and new customers. If you have any other thoughts or links to more training you think might be helpful that would be wonderful. Again thanks for the response and the help. Robin

Hello Kyle, quick question with keyword for local marketing. What if i am trying to rank for a local business but the words are too competitive but that is what most people search for for ex: Tire Shops in Canada, Auto Dealerships in Canada. How would you even rank for those keywords? Jay would say to focus on just one keyword, but if my keyword is Tires for sale in canada for example or Auto sales in canada... what would i do then, how would i approach this and be able to rank the site... thanks

This was great. Thanks. You said Facebook Groups, hmmm....how does that get ranked? Isn't that private to the group? I would think LinkedIn would be good.

Depends on your settings at FB. Public posts and comments on pages and in public groups are indexed in the search engines.

FB has a disclaimer that even if you choose Privacy and tick No, what you share with others and some parts of your Profile can still appear in search engine results. ~Jude

participating in Facebook Groups helps. You never know where your audience are until you find them.

Excellent article Kyle. An interesting thing I've found when working with clients to help get them clients via their website, is an almost fanatic belief that they should always be on the first page of Google to succeed. They seem to think that all they have to do is update their organic SEO once and they'll always be on the 1st page. And when they ask, why have I slipped and I ask "when did you add fresh content last" or "did you use your keywords in your content" or "did you write your post so you could backlink to another article in the past"...well those things just don't seem to register. With one client I've stopped having the conversation because they never listen to my advice! Too busy to do the work and too cheap to pay me. It's a challenge getting some people to see the value in this type of advice. But then I've also found very few small business people understand the "true value of a customer". They don't want to spend any money to get and keep a customer. Sorry for writing so much. Pet peeve of mine, trying to justify why someone should pay a virtual assistant. Any wonder why I want to get out of doing it full time!

What's the difference between monthly searches & traffic? to me it seems the same. If someone can help clarify that would b great.

Monthly searches would be the searches made globally per month. Whereas for traffic, it is the estimated traffic if you are in the top spot on Google.

Hello everybody.. I have a question regarding ranking posts in Google. I managed to get my first post to be on Google's and Yahoo's 1 st pages using WA keyword technique. However, I was not that lucky with my next 2 posts even I used the same technique.
Question, had anybody have luck with managing to be ranked on the Google's 1st page with each post? Or it is not a goal at all? Or the goal is to have just your website ranked on the Google's first page?
I am a bit confused. I keep writing new posts and would like to avoid mistakes.

Thank you,
Tanya

Sometimes it can take a couple days before it will get ranking. Just be patient and keep adding content. The more of an authority you become with your site, the easier it will be to rank. Great job on ranking page 1, that is exciting, but it can take some time to get that to be a consistent happening. Just keep plugging away and successes will come!

Kyle, thanks for this teaching. I can use these techniques right now in my own offline business.

Yes, you absolutely can and few offline companies know the first thing about online marketing (even the ones that think they do). This will give you a competitive advantage.

What is the main difference in Jaxxy and the keyword tool here on WA?
Reply
Kyle Premium
Jaaxy is more of a "research suite" whereas the keyword tool here at WA is strictly a keyword search. Since you are premium, you have unlimited access to the keyword tool here but you can always check out Jaaxy to see if something more advanced would be interesting to you.

Great tutorial Kyle! Really simplified the thought process here.

I am thinking of picking a vet in a city near me, submit a SA, get it ranked on page 1 referring their business as the go to business and then e mailing or writing them a letter letting them know I did this and that I could do more for them if they are interested. Writing the article is a small investment with big possibilities.

Yeah, this can definitely be done. Buy my links within the following article. I am only charging "$xx" per link per month...or you can buy the positioning outright for "$xx". This could definitely work if you can get in touch with the local companies and prove the rankings and the associate value (traffic and leads) to them.

Awesome Mike, let me know if you do have any questions. This technique works great if you have no local clients, you find the keywords first and then get the rankings...then seek out the local clients. That works well because at that point you have something to show them!
