Imagine you have a local business in Vancouver, Canada. You are operating a business in a very competitive niche, the veterinary specialist niche. You could sure use some help getting some rankings in Google under the terms that are relevant to your business as people simply are not seeing your listing in the phone book anymore.

This is where you, the local marketer, comes to the rescue (in this case, I will be their savior).

Here are some things that I want to look for when search for quality local keywords:

(1) Keywords that get a decent amount of traffic
(2) Keywords with very little competition that I can ranked under

Once I have met this criteria, I can easily get content indexed within the search engines, and likely 1st page listing in Google with relative ease. Once I have rankings, I have profit potential.

The first thing I want to do is run these keyword with my favorite keyword tool, Jaaxy. If you don’t have access to Jaaxy, I suggest you sign-up for the FREE trial (full access to system, and 30 searches for free).

I am going to start by typing in the most obvious keyword, “vancouver veterinary specialist". Hear are some of the results produced in my keyword research.

Already, I have some awesome, low QSR keywords. QSR means “Quoted Search Results”, which indicates the actual number of pages you are competing with in Google.

But why is the QSR Important?

When you research competition, the QSR is really all you are concerned with and you want to aim for keywords with under 400 QSR. The closer the ZERO, the better. As you can see I have revealed an unbelievable local keyword gem in the term vancouver veterinary specialist with a QSR of only 3!

Low competition means easy to rank. Knowing when a keyword is easy to rank will make all the difference in the world as to how efficient you are with your keyword research.

Great tutorial Kyle! Really simplified the thought process here.

I am thinking of picking a vet in a city near me, submit a SA, get it ranked on page 1 referring their business as the go to business and then e mailing or writing them a letter letting them know I did this and that I could do more for them if they are interested. Writing the article is a small investment with big possibilities.

Yeah, this can definitely be done. Buy my links within the following article. I am only charging "$xx" per link per month...or you can buy the positioning outright for "$xx". This could definitely work if you can get in touch with the local companies and prove the rankings and the associate value (traffic and leads) to them.

Awesome Mike, let me know if you do have any questions. This technique works great if you have no local clients, you find the keywords first and then get the rankings...then seek out the local clients. That works well because at that point you have something to show them!
