An Introductory Tour of GIMP

One of the great things about GIMP is that it allows you to maintain several windows open on your screen at once giving you versatility when using it. This gives you control over where the numerous windows are positioned and which ones remain visible.

In this tutorial, I will cover the following and most important windows that GIMP uses:

  • The Toolbox Window
  • The Layers Dialog
  • The Tool Options Dialog
  • Image Windows

I will also cover briefly the context menus because they offer some features that the menu bars do not. Many of the context menus expand several layers deep.

Go to GIMP to start this tutorial.

Love Gimp!! I discovered GIMP when I discovered Open Office. Great open source products for those who would rather not user Microsoft! Great tutorial!

Hi Tim:

This tutorial is only an introduction to GIMP - it is not a complete cover everything there to learn about GIMP. I plan on doing multiple separate tutorials on GIMP, but this tutorial scratches the surface. It took me a while to sit down with it and start to learn it.
