What you've just done is taken an ugly affiliate url (or any other url) and created a memorable shortcut for it using a subdomain. It looks elegant and neat and you can have as many sub-domains as you like (I think) as long as they all have unique names.

And, subdomains don't cost any more money, because they're really part of a domain you already own.

Here's a view of my own subdomains i've created to redirect to products and pages i'm promoting

As you can see, I have 'wa' promoting my Wealthy Affiliate link and also 'wap' for Wealthy Affiliate Premium. I've also created subdomains for Jaaxy, Siterubix and many others to take people to other stuff I promote. The names are memorable and punchy and will allow me to quickly insert an affiliate link without it looking spammy or ... well ... like an affiliate link!

I can also remember them at my age! (an increasing problem)

If you want to give your subdomains more seo friendly names you can do that too, but beware using trade names or copyrighted names for obvious reasons.

That's the end of my little tutorial. Any comments, just add 'em below.

Cheers!

Dave

I had been wondering about a way to do this for a couple of days, and then found your tutorial while looking for something else. Thank you so much for taking the time to create it for us!

Great and neat, Dave, thank you :-)

Just a little question, we have, as Premium members 25 domains, and although I use subdomains for different things, I believed that each of them would be considered their own domain, thereby being one of the 25. The way you said it, made me wonder if this is not so. It would be wonderful to have this cleared up because that would change a lot for me.

If you have the time, I'd love an answer :-)

Have a great, wonderful and prosperous day :-)

All the best

Hi - thank you, very useful. Just to note, you can't do this with Amazon links if anybody was thinking of doing this.

That’s true. Amazon have some pretty draconian rules! At least they operate their own url shortening service as part of Amazon Associates. However, whether affiliates continue to use them after their commission cuts remains to be seen.

Great idea, D...how fabulous...gotta try it out for sure.
Now, should I be concerned about any repercussions of any sort in doing this?
Can I post to FB, you know how finicky they can get, or any social media for that matter...and do you think your method is better than using a 'bitly shortener or even pretty links"...thnx for taking the time to reply.
With gratitude,
M

Hi Michelle,

It'll never solve Facebook's prejudice towards Affiliate Marketing. That's a real stick in the craw sore point with me, but there are so many better places to promote than FB anyway.

Any system that chooses to try to resolve the url is always still going to uncover the underlying affiliate link if it exists, but it just LOOKS neater.

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/cmaclellan FB is OK with one off affiliate links in posts, but the moment you try to Boost a post with their ad system, or run any ad campaign, it throws a wobbly and prevents the ad from running. FB do not like affiliate marketers. LittleMama here had her FB group closed by them.

Hey D, thanks for getting back to me...and it's fun to know that I am NOT the only one who has a 'mixed' relationship with FB...lol.
Thnx

It's just neat. There are so many other things you can do with Subdomains as well as this (install forums and other stuff), but this is Subdomains in their bare-naked simplest, most useful form.
