3. the main admin area

As you have already realized, the content of the main area changes depending on what item you choose from the admin menu. However, each view consists of a series of different panels which usually are laid out in a simple two-column grid:

What you need to know: this layout is fully customizable (for each user). So, let's play around a bit ...

First of all, you need to hide the classic welcome message from the top and to dismiss the panels of some automatically installed plugins. Just click the "Dismiss" buttons:

Also, you can collapse any panel by clicking the toggle icon in the top-right corner:

More than that, you can rearrange these panels as you want by simply dragging them in the desired location:

Finally, always pay attention to the "Screen Option" panel that will show you the complete list of all the available panels:

As you can see in the above image, the already dismissed welcome panel is still there and yes, ... if you check the given box the panel will become visible again. Now this is a quite important feature, because sometimes, when a given panel is hidden by default, you could easily miss out important options or features!
