Step 3: Record Your Episode
Here you need audio recording software. Use Audacity, a FREE downloadable software from https://www.audacityteam.org/download/ that you could install and start utilizing right away. Its usage is straight forward enough- like just plug in your mic's USB cable, click the red Record button at Audacity and start talking. Once done, click the Stop button (the square shaped one). With a bit of editing, that's all you need to do.
Note: Use the link above, do not go to audacity.com as it's not where the software is. They are not even related.
Also, a YouTube search for How to Use Audacity Audio Recorder should quickly help you out in case you need more assistance- especially for basic editing aspects like Cut, Copy, Paste, Add Music, etc.
For now, the image below shows you the red Record button in Audacity- click it and you are on:
Step 4: Tag your MP3 File
As you export your completed episode, you’ll be prompted to add tags. To export your episode, go to File > Export Audio which will lead you to a browse for file window. Name the file at that time, ensure File Type says MP3. See red arrows in the images below:
File > Export Audio > Save as MP3
Tagging MP3 File
Purpose of Tagging
Tagging allows Apple Podcasts (iTunes) and other platforms to extract information that is needed to correctly categorize your production.
Also, remember those are the keywords search engines would use to understand what the audio file is all about- I don’t think they have pretty accurate decoding "ears" as yet, otherwise, human transcribers would be out of business in no time.
In the next page we'll explore hosting for our podcasts and also conclude on this training with resourceful links for your further guidance if you choose to take this path.
In the meantime, kindly comment on any other FREE (or otherwise) recording software that could probably do a better job. Do you have any experience with Audacity? Please tell us more on the comments comments section below.
Good Job
