In this short tutorial, I'll show you how to remove the word "Category" in WordPress from your permalinks Post Url. Why would you want to remove the word Category from your permalink you ask?

Personally, it just looks cleaner, so I did some digging and found a super easy way that doesn't involve any plugins or tampering with your editor files. That's right "NO plugin required". I am very excited to share this with all of you. :)

Also, I feel that it's the best way to structure your website URL for search engine optimization (SEO) is to use the actual category title, wouldn't you agree?

This is something that has been bugging me for some time now and I finally figured it out, and I know a few WA members have been asking that very same question.

Thus, is why I am sharing this simple code to use to replace the word category with your actual category title.

Simply copy this code below and follow the steps by watching this video. :)

/%category%/%postname%

Thanks again for watching, if you found my short tutorial useful to you, please feel free to share your thoughts & hit the like button. Cheers

Hey Jen, do you know how to remove the word "category" completely?

Hey John,

How you set your permalink determines how your URLs will appear. See screen print below to see how to make sure that "category" is NOT displayed in your post URLs.

Hope you find this helpful.

Okay so if I use "sample-post" then it will only show the name of the category and not "category" correct?

Did you remember to Save once you reset your permalink? If not, simply go back, set your permalink like that shown in the screen print and click the Save button nearer the bottom of the Permalinks page... be sure to refresh your browser and then check your posts.

Then I would recommend that you contact SiteSupport to see what may be wrong.

Hi Jenn.
My name is Monica, and I am having a little trouble. This tutorial is great, but I don't think I have come this far in setting up my site. The thing is, when I insert a link to WealthyAffiliate in my content, and then click that link to look at the page from that link,
the page shows up with my own personal email address and password where it should be blank for the person visiting that page to enter their own information. How can I fix this?

Hey Monica, I'm not sure if I understand your question I will try my best to answer it.

From what I understand you are adding your Wealthy Affiliate affiliate link into your content, right? But for some strange reason each time you click on that link it shows your log in info? If I'm understanding that correctly then the only thing I can think of is that the Url looks like this http://www.wealthyaffiliate.com if your url looks like so, then that would explain why it's showing your login info don't worry it would show it to those who are clicking on it, but I would recommend going into your affiliate area and change out that link to your affiliate link.

You can find that in your WA affiliate link inside the wealthy affiliate program area and you can either just copy and paste the first affiliate link u see or you can create a tracking one under links and tracking. When your ready to put your link into your content type Wealthy affiliate or what ever text you like select text as if you were copying it then add in your url link using the tool provided. Hope that helps :)

Take care

Your welcome, I do have two questions for you, hope you don't mind answering. :)

What are your thoughts about the word Category in your URL?

Do you still use it or have you changed the word to fit your category titles instead?

I have never had it come up in my URL's. I think I would like to not have it in there if I had the choice :-)
