So ...

Just because you are using quotes doesn't mean that Google will take it as a quote!

Those quote marks are nothing else, but "regular" characters for search engines.

In plain English: a quote mark (or any other "special" character) doesn't matter much unless it changes the meaning of the sentence or words.

Which means, that you need to use the blockquote HTML tag to achieve your goal without hurting your SEO results.

The blockquote tag is more than just a means to visually separate quoted content, it is also an indication to the search engines that the content is quoted and should not be counted as original content.

Now before I'll show you how easy is to do that, here are a few general tips that can help you to quote content without hurting your SEO results:

  • Take only what you need to make your point! The less content you copy, the better off you are. Keep it copied in a single span under a sentence or two.
  • Add enough original content! The higher the ratio of YOUR original content to copied content, the better the new article will perform. The quoted content shouldn't be higher than 20%.
  • Paraphrase, don’t quote! The search engines only detect duplicate content that matches exactly! In other words: you can rewrite what another site has said, with attribution but without quoting it directly. And the search engines will treat it as original content ...
  • Link back! A link back to the source tells the search engines where the content came from ... And that you are not trying to be deceptive! Which further encourages the search engines to rank you well.
  • And finally ... Use the blockquote tag!

So ... Let's see how can you do that ...

Hi Z,

Nice! This is very helpful... I'm going to be using a quote soon.

If I install this Perfect Pullquotes plugin, can I uninstall the plugin after I have my quote in my content?

Thank you.
