Community Engagement

Here in WA, engagement boosts your ranking.

Similarly, engagement is key in Instagram, as they will identify you as prominent and therefore giving your post more reach.

Here are 4 points to take note on community engagement:

(i) Follow those with similar or related niche

Don't think of similar niche account as rivals, think of them as opportunities. Follow similar or related niche accounts (that are more established with many followers) to keep up with them or check on the current trends.

It also gives you the opportunity to get their followers to follow you since you have similar niche/content. Which brings us to the next point.

(ii) Give meaningful comments

The most important thing is to be respectful when commenting. When commenting on other's posts, don't just blatantly comment asking people to follow your account.

Instead, give valuable input, thoughts or opinions to the post. When people see a meaningful comment, they'll be more likely to visit your profile and follow you.

Also, don't just give emojis or generic one or a few words comments like 'cool' or 'good job' and such.

Would you be interested to follow someone who gives this type of comment? Probably not.

(iii) Reply to comments on your posts

When you upload your post, it is best if you have some free time in the next hour in order to reply the people who comment on your post. Increased engagement would further the reach of your post, so replying ASAP is a plus point.

Of course there will be times when we are busy, but be sure to reply the comments once you have the time.

(iv) Like comments and replies

When someone comments on you post, or gives a reply to your comment, press the heart shape button to like it.

Here's an example of me replying to comments. I will like their comments and replies, and will not give 1 word replies.

Very informative. It never really cross my mind because when I created my Instagram account, I did it because someone I met in a party asked me for it and I said don’t have one, been old school, I said what happen to the old days when phone number used to be something. So I created one right there. Hardly visit, but now that I’m using it as part of my business, I will go your training a shot.
Thanks.

Thanks for taking a look at my training! Hope it will help. The start can be a bit slow, it took a while for me to reach 1000 followers, but once I did, things started to pick up fast.

This was very informative training. I should definitely pay more attention to how I post on Instagram. I only use the same hashtags I use on Twitter all over the place. And I only posting one picture and posting at random times.

I definitely have some thinking and work to do! Thanks!

All the best,
Fred.

Glad this tutorial helps! Using the same hashtag on twitter and IG is fine, but do change or rotate the hashtags.

Hi Idris! Thank you so much for the training. Your training helps! I am new to Instagram. Two things I am still not totally clear with are #hashtags and stories. So, therefore, I have a small list of questions.
1. What is the purpose of hashtags, how do I access it, & are FB, twitter, and Instagram hashtags connected?
2. What is the difference between story and just submitting pictures or videos?
3. Can you put Hashtags in story?

Thank you again for the great training!

I'm new to Instagram too, and it seems like a foreign land.

A hashtag is basically a type of metadata tag that people use on social networks. It's used by the search engines to help others easily find messages or images based on a specific theme.

For example, right now If you go into Instagram or twitter and tap in #Covid19, it would bring up everything - posts and images - related to this current situation.

Thank you, Isaiah! Are the Hashtags for Instagram, twitter, and FB connected? It does not seem like it.

I did #Covid19 on twitter and it gave me stats but no pictures or posts. However, Instagrams and facebook brought up posts and images.

Thank you!

Hi!

1. What is the purpose of hashtags, how do I access it, & are FB, twitter, and Instagram hashtags connected?

Isaiah explained it! Hashtags lets others discover posts on the said hashtags. But like I mentioned in the training, some hashtags are too vast because millions of people use them, for example #love. If you use that, and someone search for #love, you post would be buried among millions of other posts.

As far as I know, hashtags are not connected across social media platforms. Using the same hashtag across IG, Twitter and FB would only show you their respective content; if you type #love on IG, then it would show posts that has #love in their caption, if you type #love on twitter, it will show you tweets with #love in them.

2. What is the difference between story and just submitting pictures or videos?

Insta Story only last for 24hr, afterwhich you can save it as a highlight on your profile page, or it will just disappear from your profile (and only you can access it if you want to). If you upload an image or video on instagram as a post, it stays on your profile page.

3. Can you put Hashtags in story?
You can, but I don't think it can be found when someone search for a hashtag. In the search hashtag option on Instagram, I only saw image and video posts.

Hope these helps, and if anyone who reads this has anything to add or correct, please do so!

They're not connected - you will receive different results separately in each network.

We're you logged into twitter in your account when you searched? In the search box, when I first start typing in the characters "#Co" - it will bring up either Covid19, coffee, or other possible tags that start with "co".

Thank you Idris! Much appreciated. I created a handful of insta stories not knowing what I was doing. Now that makes sense... Instagram gave me access to circles to categorize my stories.

Idris, good information on what to do for Instagram. Marketing on social media seems hard for me to understand. Your training made it easier for me to figure out what to do. I’d like to learn step by step. You gave that for how to get followers on IG. I do not use any social media outlets. I do not like them for the same reason I have aversion to Facebook. I am trying not to hate them but I do. Only thing I like is YouTube. That’s what I watch a lot. Now from the training in Bootcamp there is a brief information from a Kyle’s training on how to do YouTube marketing. I found more training by others that are more updated for 2020, that’s been helpful for me.

The knowledge and information is always available, but more often than not its our fear of not being able to do it well is what that is holding us back. So you gotta try out one of these social medias!

For me, I've still yet to start YouTube videos as I'm kinda apprehensive about my accent, and that I'm not that good at video editing. But I'm planning to just do it anyways and just learn along the way. That's my next target! Starting a YouTube channel.
