Now that your account is set up, it is time to start following people; otherwise you are just talking to yourself.
When first setting up your profile, Twitter recommends following celebrities and big name companies; but as an affiliate marketer, these don't sound like potential customers.
You may be wondering how to go about following people that might be interested in your niche. This can be done using the search bar.
All you have to do is type in a general keyword related to your niche. For example, I have a retro video game site, so I am going to search for Nintendo; which is a huge video game company. Chances are, people that follow Nintendo might like video games, and might like what I have to say.
Once you find an account with a very large amount of followers, click on their followers and start following.
Wow, this Nintendo page has over 2 million followers; which means over 2 million people like Nintendo and video games. For your niche start following a few people.
Try to to not go follow crazy and just follow a few people a day. You don't want to appear as spam or Twitter might suspend your account. My suggestion is to follow 10 to 25 people a day.
Little by little, you will notice that some of these people will follow you back. If you are consistent with following a decent amount of people every day, you will soon find your Twitter account with a pretty big following.
If these followers are reading your tweets, retweeting your tweets, and marking your tweets as favorites, then they might want to learn more by checking out your site.
Don't be afraid to unfollow people. If someone isn't following you back or interacting with you, chances are they are not interested in what you have to say.
In the next lesson, we are going to focus on creating tweets and sharing your site content.
