Welcome to another training video and this one shows how to find broken links on a website and how to easily fix them.
What is a broken link?
This can occur for several reasons, I won't get into the semantics now. But...just know that they're not good for your website.
It's best to find them and fix them on a regular basis, maybe monthly. If you're careful you might not need to fix many...if you've had a site for a while and you've never checked, you might have lots.
The Tool You Will Need
The Techniques Used
- Go to Your Site as a visitor
- In another tab, open http://brokenlinkcheck.com/
- Enter your domain name (minus the http and the www) example... domain.com
- Enter the captcha code
- Select which option you want (Report distinct broken links only) or (Report all occurrences of each dead link which may be slower)
- Click on "find broken links now"
- Once scan of your site is complete, click on the URL option. Also click on the SRC option (means source) now 2 separate tabs should be open...
- Look at the Source which will be highlighted in pink. Try to identify where in the blog post your broken link is hiding.
- Go to the tab with your post (or page) URL and find the offending broken link. (Hint- use CTRL+F to seek out the exact place of the link, takes some practice, but is easier)
- Rectify the broken link. Change it to the correct link, or delete it all together if you find it's not necessary.
DONE!
Tips
You don't have to re-scan like I do every time you fix one link...
You can fix them all in one go, it's just that I wanted to show on camera that my links were fixed in each instance.
Normally I would just fix them all in a batch without checking each one is fixed individually like in the video. This way is faster and should take about 2 minutes per link.
When you've fixed all those faulty links you can go ahead and re-scan your site in its entirety.

Thanks for watching, happy link finding and fixing.
