The setting of the plugin is quite simple.
Let's do it together.
Go to Dashboard > setting > you should Table of Content
The Setting
- First, you need to specify type of post where you want the Table of Content to appear. (I would normally choose for post and pages. If you have customer posts, post/pages created by page builder, you can also choose them here.
In this case, I ticked the Grid Builder which I want to create post/page using the plugin. If you are using other page builder such Elementor, it should be listed there and all you need is to tick the item if you want to enable the Table of Content displayed on posts/pages created by using the plugin.
- Next, you need to choose where the Table of Content should be auto-inserted. (Again, I normally choose post and page - it's up to your preferences). Let say you have a page/post you don't want it to appear, you can disable it on individual post/page.
Since I don't want it to appear in my product page, it don't choose that post type.
As you can see, this feature gives us flexibility on the type of post the Table of Content will appear. - Next is the conditions you put before the table of content appear on your post/page. Here, I have chosen for it to be shown if there are 3 or more headings present on the post/page (these are H1, H2, H3 .......H6).
If the post/page has only 2 headings, the Table of Content will not be displayed
The other option here is the header you want to be shown on top of the Table of Content. In my case, I leave if to the default i.e. Table of Content - you can name it whatever you want.
I like to initially hide the table as it looks clean and neat. The Table of Content would expand once your visitor click on it. - Next is to choose the appearance of the Table of Content.
You can let the table to float left or right of your content, or you can leave it to the default which position it in the middle of the post/page.
You can also choose the theme color, which is nice as you can match the color with your theme color. - If there is nothing match your theme color, you can customize it in this option.
- Now we come to the advanced setting. I do not mess up with the other option except on the 'headings' section where I only choose H1, H2 and H3 as the headings for the plugin to qualify my heading counts. So if there are 3 headings consist of H1 H2 and H3 in my post, as I specified earlier met, the Table of Content will be shown.
- Another flexibility of this plugin is that you can exclude certain segment in your content from listed in the Table of Content by indicating which part of your content should not listed in the table.
I think this is a great feature as you may have headings which is continuation of the previous heading. So you may want to exclude this section from the list in the Table of Content.
So basically we are done with the setting of the plugin.
To make adjustment, you only need to go back to the setting page and make the necessary adjustment. Once you have amended the setting, all the pages/posts where the Table of Content are shown will be changed accordingly.
Finally, let see the result.
