Upon activation, go to Settings => PayPal Donations to access the plugin configuration page.
Before anything else, you'll have to provide your PayPal email that you used to create your PayPal account, and then you can choose a currency:
Below you'll see various optional parameters such as page style (the option to provide a custom donation page URL from your PayPal account), return page (the URL to which the donator comes to after completing the donation; for example, you can create a Wordpress page to thank the donors), default amount, purpose of donation, button style, etc.
Once you are happy with your choices, don't forget to click the "Save Changes" button!

Also, you can go to Appearance => Widgets in order to add the PayPal donation button to your sidebar. Simply drag the "PayPal Donations" widget into your sidebar (or any other widget-ready area) and customize it according to your needs. Here's a simple live example:

Any suggestion as to what amount is reasonable to add there?
