In this video I am going to walk you through the process of creating a Privacy Policy on your website. It is "part of the process" and this is the ONLY page on your website that you can have duplicate content (assuming that you "no index" is by clicking the 4 check boxes...as per explained in the video).

Here is the example privacy policy:

-------------------------------------------------

Privacy Policy for YOURWEBSITE.com

If you require any more information or have any questions about our privacy policy, please feel free to contact us by email at YOUREMAIL@YOURWEBSITE.com.

At YOURWEBSITE.com, the privacy of our visitors is of extreme importance to us. This privacy policy document outlines the types of personal information that are received and collected by YOURWEBSITE.com and how it is used.

Log Files

Like many other Web sites, YOURWEBSITE.com makes use of log files. The information inside the log files includes internet protocol ( IP ) addresses, type of browser, Internet Service Provider ( ISP ), date/time stamp, referring/exit pages, and number of clicks to analyze trends, administer the site, track user’s movement around the site, and gather demographic information. IP addresses, and other such information are not linked to any information that is personally identifiable.

Cookies and Web Beacons

YOURWEBSITE.com does not use cookies.

DoubleClick DART Cookie

.:: Google, as a third party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on YOURWEBSITE.com.
.:: Google’s use of the DART cookie enables it to serve ads to users based on their visit to YOURWEBSITE.com and other sites on the Internet.
.:: Users may opt out of the use of the DART cookie by visiting the Google ad and content network privacy policy at the following URL –http://www.google.com/privacy_ads.html

Some of our advertising partners may use cookies and web beacons on our site.

These third-party ad servers or ad networks use technology to serve the advertisements and links that appear on YOURWEBSITE.com send directly to your browsers. They automatically receive your IP address when this occurs. Other technologies ( such as cookies, JavaScript, or Web Beacons ) may also be used by the third-party ad networks to measure the effectiveness of their advertisements and / or to personalize the advertising content that you see.

YOURWEBSITE.com has no access to or control over these cookies that are used by third-party advertisers.

You should consult the respective privacy policies of these third-party ad servers for more detailed information on their practices as well as for instructions about how to opt-out of certain practices. YOURWEBSITE.com’s privacy policy does not apply to, and we cannot control the activities of, such other advertisers or web sites.

You can opt out of all communication with YOURWEBSITE.com simply by leaving this page.

If you wish to disable cookies, you may do so through your individual browser options. More detailed information about cookie management with specific web browsers can be found at the browsers’ respective websites.

-------------------------------------------------

Want to See My Privacy Policy Page?

To see an example of my privacy policy, you can visit it here:

http://howtolosebellyfattoday.com/privacy-policy

Notice that I replace the YOURWEBSITE.com text with my website. The email address at the top can also be replace with your personal email, a new email you create, or a domain specific email...or it can be left as the default for now.

If you want a different Privacy Policy, you can Google "free privacy policy template" and you will get a lot of different options if you do not want to use this particular privacy policy template.

How do we "no index" and "no follow" etc. if we are using Yoast instead of all in one SEO?
Reply

Just search Google for Yoast training, even simply putting this question about Yoast and "no index", etc., into the search. Yoast has great training in both text and youtube videos. I've just moved to Yoast SEO myself and it is helping me greatly.
Good luck.

Hey Karl,

Take note that this is just for "Privacy policy". It does not cover a wide spectrum to protect your info product. My suggestion would be to either engage a lawyer to draft the agreement, or follow something like WA's terms of use: https://www.wealthyaffiliate.com/terms, but at your own risk.

Is anyone concerned about all the spam they are going to get by putting an email address in cleartext in a webpage? In the Privacy Policy, can we just put a link to a form? That would cut down on spam tremendously.

There are some Privacy Policy Generators available on the web so you don't have to do a search and replace all. Has anyone used them?

Hello all. Ok im sure this question may be on some peoples minds. If you create multiple websites, does having the same privacy policy and about me page count as duplicate content to google? Can you be penalized for this in google?
Reply
ADias Premium
Hi there,
I don't think so. Kyle suggests that we copy his Privacy Policy page, so it won't make sense if it penalize you.

Hai,
I think having the exact same "about me" in different websites is kinda boring. Make some changes to suit the niche/website. Tell a story-why you're interested in the niche, your experience etc."

As far as privacy policy is considered, you can use the same privacy policy. But make sure to check off the following boxes in the All In One Seo settings for the page.
"Robots Meta NOINDEX",
"Robots Meta NOFOLLOW",
"Robots Meta NODOP",
"Robots Meta NOYDR"

This is to prevent the privacy policy page from getting indexed. If it is indexed, then it'll be counted as duplicate content and google will penalize our site.

Kyle has explained it in the video @ 4:52

Hope that helped! :)

I have had my privacy policy page up for awhile, but I recently discovered that the link is broken and I am getting a 404.

I am talking about the section of..."Users may opt out of the use of the DART cookie by visiting the Google ad and content network privacy policy at the following URL" –http://www.google.com/privacy_ads.html

I recently removed the link and just have the wording in black/white, is this okay?
I have looked at a couple of other websites and have found someone else also had a 404 issue.

Reply
leoemery Premium
The DoubleClick DART cookie is used by Google in the ads served on the websites of its partners, such as websites displaying AdSense ads or participating in Google certified ad networks. When users visit a partner's website and either view or click on an ad, a cookie may be dropped on that end user's browser

This privacy policy says the website doesn't use cookies, but don't affiliate links use cookies? So shouldn't it say we do use cookies to track links?
Reply
ChrisGooden Premium
The WA affiliate links do not contain cookies, and that's what the Privacy Policy states.

You may have other affiliate links, but these are not WA. They are "3rd party" affiliate links. These may, or may not, contain cookies, and that's what the Privacy Policy states.

Porting a site needs careful planning. Discuss it with WA support who will tell you all the issues you need to consider and what bits they can assist you with.

Also check with GoDaddy that they will allow you to move it. Some hosting sites do not permit it.

I don't understand how the privacy policy can state "YOURWEBSITE.com does not use cookies" when cookies are the basis for affiliate marketing.

What am I missing here? I see the question already asked below, but don't see a definitive answer. I don't want to state something on my privacy page that is completely untrue.

Hi jwittwe. Good question. BobZeiss, did you get an answer from Kyle about this? My take on this is that there really is no privacy anymore. Everything is tracked. Not just online. There are video cameras, audio recording equipment, data capture tools, etc. That is the world in which we live. Regarding this issue of whether to say your site is using cookies or not, you probably don't really know. There is a lot of code used to create WordPress, plugins, browsers, etc. If there is a specific concern, encourage the users of your site to contact you. My privacy policy page just says this:

"Privacy Policy for http://bioelectrobot.com/

If you require more information or have any questions about our privacy policy, please feel free to contact us by email at electrobot@bioelectrobot.com."

These are just my opinions. Anyone else have ideas about this issue?
Reply
leoemery Premium
This is stating that your site is not using cookies for tracking, not the affiliates your associated with.

The affiliate that you are associated with may be using cookies, but that has nothing to do with your website, and those cookies will only be activated when and if the visitor to your site goes to your affiliates website.

What it means is, when someone clicks on your site, your site does not place a cookie on their computer. Most sites you visit during the day do just that to keep track of you. This is why I go through my cookies from time to time and clear them out

There are always cookies on you computer that you dont even know are there.

Its basically the same way. You need to (using your finger) double click where you want to start and a meter will come up. Drag the right side of the meter down to where you want and this will highlight it. Then copy, and paste it wherever you want. Basically the same as a computer

Hello Norah! Basically what I had to do on my smartphone is put my finger down and hold it there at the beginning of the word and when it is highlighted in blue, you pick your finger up and slide the end of the blue scale down to where it ends and then pick your finger up and hold it down on the blue highlighted area then copy it and then go to your website and paste it. And voila! It's done. It gets easier to do when you have done it a few times. Hope this helps. Good Luck! I wish you the best in your success.

I saw a question in the comments a few days ago, but couldn't find the page it belonged to (it showed up on an earlier lesson). Now that I am here I see the confusion: Beneath the line "Some of our advertising partners may use cookies and web beacons on our site." begins the paragraph regarding third party ad servers.

It reads: "These third-party ad servers or ad networks use technology to the advertisements and links that appear on YOURWEBSITE.com send directly to your browsers."

It should read: "These third-party ad servers or ad networks use technology to send, directly to your browser, the advertisements and links that appear on YOURWEBSITE.com.

I hope this helps everyone. I have checked and there are literally hundreds of Privacy Policy pages out there with the misprint. It's not uncommon for a phrase to get shifted whenever we use copy/paste. I know this often happens to me because I accidentally hitting some hotkey combination that moves a phrase to the end of a sentence. I just wish I knew the sequence so I could stop doing it.

Check in your menus. In your dashboard go to 'Appearance' then 'Menus' and look under 'Pages' on the left. Then look under 'Menu Structure' on the right and see if it's listed there. If not then look under 'View All' or do a search. As long as you published it, it will show here. Then when you locate it, check the box and click add to menu. From there (menu structure) you can drag the page under any other page to show as a sub page. Hope this answers your question.

Is it necessary to give an opportunity to comment at the PPP? At the bottom of the page.
Reply
howmuch Premium
Nope. And when you do up your page, it's a good idea to click the "nofollow" box at the very bottom in the text editor.
Reply
Warner43 Premium
But why see I that opportunity than beneath nearly every PPP page?
Reply
Warner43 Premium
It is also on the PPP of Kyle (see the link above) "leave a reply, and so on. My question was if that is necessary.
Reply
howmuch Premium
It's likely because the comments option was not used to remove it. When you do a Privacy Policy, or any other page where it's unnecessary to leave a comment, all you have to do is make sure you have that page in editing mode, then click on Screen Options at the top right just above the text editor box. It will show a number of options; one of them is "Comments". Just uncheck that box and the comments box will disappear from that particular page.

It is not necessary to have a comments box on your PPP.
Reply
Warner43 Premium
I understand that I can remove the commentbox, but that was not my question. My quetion was if a comment box at that at the PPlage is a must, because I see it on nearly all that pages.

What does noindex really mean? That Google won't index it but then Yahoo and ODP would still? And therefore you should check all 3?

What about nofollow? Does this mean if checked, all links (literally the whole page, including sidebar etc.) on that particular page are nofollowed?
Reply
A noindex tag tells the search engines (not just Google) not to index the page. This is also true for noindexing a specific link. If it's applied to a page, the spider will crawl the links in the page and proceed on. Albeit, the page will not show up in the search results.

A nofollow tag tells the search engines not to follow the links found on that page. If you apply this tag to a specific link on that page in inline code, that one link will not get followed. The page itself will be indexed and will show up in the search engines.
Reply
jeremyngyw Premium
How do you noindex a link??? I though you can only nofollow a link?

If noindexing a page tells all search engines not to index the page, what is the NOODP and NOYDIP that Kyle checks off for?

It's because all websites are required to have that policy Eric62. And since most of them either the same, or very similiar, make sure you check the box where it says "not follow" in your SEO, so your privacy policy will not be marked as duplicate, cause it won't be ranked.
Reply
Eric62 Premium
I don't understand how you can have the same privacy policy on other websites?
Reply
howmuch Premium
Gordi pretty much said it all. A privacy policy is just a standard statement which serves as a legal document explaining the ways your site gathers, dispenses and treats a customer or client's data. You simply make sure that anywhere your site name is required, you have your site name, and not someone else's.
Reply
Eric62 Premium
Ok, so basically you can have the same wording in all of your websites and not get dinged by google correct? I may not have been clear. Sorry about that!

You won't get dinged by Google if your "No Follow" box is checked. It tells Google that the privacy policy is not meant to be considered a post or page on your site the way your subject matter is.
