Components of a Domain Name
Top-Level Domain
A website name usually contains one of the following .com, .org, .net, e.t.c These are called top-level domain, amidst them .com stands to have gained wide acceptance. Each TLD has its uniqueness. The .edu is used by the educational institution. The .org is used by the organization especially the nonprofit organizations. The .biz is specific to the website that are business-specific.
Root Domains
Taking an example from www.wealthyaffiliate.com, wealthy affiliate is a root domain. Your website is a build-up with several pages, each of these pages has unique addresses. This is the only static part without changing. This root domain may carry what we call subdomains
Subdomains
This is common with large domains, having different parts that can stand on their own. But they belong to the same domain. The usual practice is to place the name of the sub before the root domain.
