Visiting The Google Adsense Help Center was no help at all so I searched on Wealthy Affiliate and found wonderful tutorials for the next phase of Adsense (how to add the code for an Add Unit). This training by Belinda @bellabs12 is the most popular:

But the training teaches the steps to take once your account is already verified.

So I did some more digging via google search and finally found some training on YouTube that taught 2 simple ways to add the code. Here they are:

2 Simple Ways to Add Google Adsense Verification Code to WordPress

1. Using a Plug-in called "Insert Headers and Footers"

2. Adding the code manually via Site Editor (almost exactly the steps I followed but with one simple twist)
