So ...

The plugin works out of the box, so there are no settings for you to configure.

And here's the thing ... By default, Wordpress will allow you to open a given link in a new window/tab. When you click the "Insert/edit link" tool, the default entry field will appear ...

... and if you click the little gear icon to access the link options panel, you'll be able to check the "Open link in a new tab" option:

Which means that you'll have three options:

  • to nofollow ALL your external links automatically (using a dedicated plugin)
  • to nofollow particular links leveraging options/settings provided by a given SEO plugin
  • to manually add the nofollow tag to each link by editing the HTML code in Text mode

On the other hand, this plugin will allow you to easily nofollow ANY link at the time of writing your post.

So, let's see the magic ...

Thanks for this, one question if that's ok - in the training here I saw at one point kyle had mentioned it would be better not to use the no follow.
if I remember correctly, he said it was better in Google's view that they knew where you were sending your visitors to...
yet many other places I see they say always use the no follow...which confused me.

I have posts ranked first on page 1 without any "no follow" attribute.
So what is the main benefit of using this no follow and why use it if you can get your posts first on page 1 without it?

The concept behind nofollow links came about in 2005, as a way of discouraging comment spam in blogs.

The thinking went like this: If comment spammers didn’t get credit for their nofollow links, then they’d be less likely to waste their time posting those links on blogs.

Today, the purpose of rel="nofollow" has evolved slightly. It’s now also supposed to be used on links that are commercial/for-profit in nature. Links that fall into this category are: paid links, banner ads, sponsored content, text link ads and affiliate links.
