In order to read what is on the screen, we have to stare at it for long hours. This is true for Ipads, Kindle and all tablets. When we are caught up in a task, sometimes we find it hard to, or forget to look away periodically. The result is eye strain and discomfort.
The changing of focus, the glare from the screen and the incorrect settings for contrast and tone can give us dry eyes and cause tension in the muscles working with the eyes. This explains why sometimes we have headaches when we shut down for the day.
Protection for the eyes
1.There is a tool that can be used to ease the problems which might arise. It is called the
Tibetan Eye Chart
It was invented hundreds of years ago by Tibetan monks and is said to stimulate the muscles and nerves associated with the eyes if used correctly.
There are many exercises that can be done but in short description, if you place the chart away from the computer, like on the wall at the near left, you can periodically take your eyes from the screen and, keeping your head fixed
- trace each of the spokes from the outer point to the centre and back out, or you can
- run your eyes 360 degrees clockwise then counterclockwise across the tips of the spokes.
- run your eyes along a diameter.
You should also do this at the end of a day's work, and the chart should be large enough to give the eye sufficient movement in the exercise.
2. Reading with special glasses.
Many eyes suffer from the harmful effects of the blue light that is emitted from the screen. Everyone should get a pair of glasses made specially for reducing the amount of that light. The reduction of blue light would also help with some cases of insomnia. It is available in online stores.
3. Moisture
We should also have some rewetting drops to be applied periodically because eyes tend to get dry when using the computer.
