It's well known that most readers only want to "scan" pages so the can find the information they need quickly.

If readers can't scan your content easily, they WILL leave your site.

People landing on your site and quickly leaving is terrible for your SEO. It gives your site a high bounce rate and you'll begin to lose any rankings you had.

Highlighting text in your posts or pages is a great way to guide your reader's to the important parts of your content. Do this right, and you'll increase engagement and conversions.

I don't like to go to the code page afraid of screwing it up

I'm the same way, but if you do it like this(in text editor) you can't mess anything up. If you do it wrong, it will show immediately and you can fix it. But it won't mess up the site or anything else.

Hi Chris, you can also just place the colour code you get from the colour chart ie #ffb071 or whatever? I've got highlighting on one of my pages, think it was from the Tiny editor that I added to the kitchen sink in WP. Thanks for this info.
