Once you have recorded, edited and produced your video, you'll want to think about where to host it. Then you can think about embedding your video onto our website.
There are two choices here. You can either upload the video to the same hosting space as your website using, in Wordpress, the Media tab in the back end, to upload it. However, this method can be restrictive as file size limits a very low. In these instances, the Wordpress VideoPress plugin upgrade will be required. You'll also need a player plugin, for which there are many available for free in the Plugins 'Add New' portfolio. These also allow you to really customize the way your videos are presented on your site.
Alternatively, you can use a third-party host such as YouTube or Vimeo.
The pros and cons of video hosting
There are several pros and cons for both local and third-party approaches to video hosting. YouTube is generally the most popular hosting choice, and for good reason. It's free, and also easy to upload your videos and then access the embed code to put them on your site. YouTube even offers a Wordpress plugin to simplify this even further.
But probably most importantly, your video will be part of the biggest video sharing community on the planet! If you make a number of videos, then you'll probably want to create your own YouTube channel, where there are plenty of ways to optimize your videos and promote them to a much wider audience.
Vimeo is very similar in its offering, though its community is a lot smaller. As the options to segment and moderate the viewing audience are better, especially with the paid-for option, Vimeo is generally the preferred option for creatives, business and non-commercial sectors.
