Remove Potential Pitfalls
1. Remove “vanity” keywords
The vanity keywords are the single-word keywords that describe your product or service or the content you are promoting.
- For example, if you are running a medical-related campaign, a word like Medicine is not worth it
- It will be hard to compete with a top-ranked company unless your marketing team has a lot of money. To compete against these large corporations, you will need to improve your keywords.
2. Do not focus on one-word keywords
Even if the terms people are using to search are not clear, they still use more than one keyword to carry out their research.
3. Qualify keywords that seem too broad
When you have a keyword that is too broad, try to test some other words with it and make it more targeted and specific. Animal, for example, is a very broad search term. However, you can make it more specific by adding some other words to it like ‘invertebrate animals.’
4. Avoid keywords that are too specific
If you have carried out some research on your keyword list and you find out that the long-tail keywords got a very low ranking, the keyword is not good for SEO. You shouldn’t use it for PPC ads, image name, article title, URL, or Meta description.
