What is considered invalid activity...

Quite simply put, any impressions or clicks which falsely enhance any publisher's earnings or advertiser's costs is considered to be invalid activity.

One of the scariest aspects concerning this topic...this activity may well be happening without you knowing it or it might be happening without your permission.

And not just that...Google will view accidental clicks and intentional fraudulent traffic to be your fault!

Guess what?

If this happens it's still YOUR responsibility!

The onus is on YOU to prevent this activity as best you can.

These 4 points are considered by Google to be invalid activity...

  • Clicks or impressions generated by publishers clicking their own live ads
  • Repeated ad clicks or impressions generated by one or more users
  • Publishers encouraging clicks on their ads (examples may include: any language encouraging users to click on ads, ad implementations that may cause a high volume of accidental clicks, etc.)
  • Automated clicking tools or traffic sources, robots, or other deceptive software.

Hi Steve,

Great information. I was a victim of Click Fraud with Adsense years ago and google let me know where it was coming from right away. Luckily, I could terminate the clicks in time and did not get banned, but it is very real and a very real danger.

Are there any click tracking systems you would recommend above the others? Also, do you know if there are any that are setup specifically for Amazon Affiliates?

Hi Tom...

I have never used one of these programs and I don't usually recommend anything to anyone anymore...once bitten twice shy :)

I mentioned on Page 3...

"Install click monitoring software...type these words into your browser and you'll find a FREE software program"...

And I don't know about Amazon either...

If you type these questions into your browser you will be bound to find your answers!

All the best...
Steve

This is VERY useful, thanks for posting this. The temptation is there to click on those ads, but the consequences will be devastating especially to those who worked long and hard to get revenue from Google AdSense. I certainly would much rather have it the right way, the Google wants it.

Let me tell you, I got a scare from AdSense early this morning. I want to check my latest stats there and I saw kind of alert at the top that I had never seen before saying that payments are on hold.

I'm thinking to myself: "Great, I'm about to get booted out of AdSense", but when I clicked on the alert and read the whole things, it said my payments are on hold because I need to do one last thing which is to verify my home address.

They sent me a letter in the mail that contains a PIN and once it is received, I put the PIN in and I am good to go to receive payments once and for all (once I reach the payment threshold).

I guess that is a good thing as my stats from AdSense are rapidly increasing, mainly from page views, RPM, and impressions. I've also had some increase in clicks too so it shows me that things are definitely moving in a very positive direction.
