Try this quick and easy cheat to create HTML code for your own widgets (perfect for non-programmers)!

I use this cheat often when creating customized content for my website sidebar columns. You can use this for creating widgets for any position on your site.

  • Create a draft post for your website
  • Layout your content as you would like to see it appear in your widget
  1. Use the Paragraph, header 1, heading 2, heading 3 etc. to get the content looking how you want. Center and format it etc. until you are happy
  2. Insert the images you like
  3. Add links if needed

For example:

Create a Draft Post...

Preview...

When ready to make your widget, click on the text tab. This will reveal the HTML code for your draft post:

Highlight the entire text and copy.

Then go into your widgets, create a new custom HTML widget

Paste the code into your widget, and SAVE

Voila, you've created your first HTML widget !

Conclusion

Using Custom HTML widgets doesn't have to just be for embedding pre-existing banners. With these simple techniques, you can get creative and put your own personality on them.

Success, Karen! I applied both aspects of your tutorial this Friday evening. Went off without a hitch. I am so happy to be able to align my WA Banner and to create a custom widget. Very cool!

For some reason I never created a post draft in Word Press edit mode. I've only created posts in Site Content and then published them. It took me a minute to get what you were doing. Something so simple can be easily missed or cause confusion, at least for someone simple like me. :-)

Thanks again for the work you put into this tutorial.

Hi Riley - I know what you mean!! Thankfully when I get myself too tied up in knots, I can get in touch with my son whose a full time software developer. But it's also good to experiment and not be afraid to try and solve problems ourselves, that's all part of the learning process. I learn better by doing. All the best with your affiliate journey. Hey KD Forsman, good training. I just overflew it as I already knew something about it. But still, very helpful for many people I believe.

Cheers,
Kay
