Step 5- Choose one.

Which one was easiest to come up with ideas for? Don't just choose one because the list underneath it is longer. Choose one that has great and genuine ideas. If you are torn between two, start with one and you can always do a second site down the road.

If you choose a niche because you think you will make money easier then stop right there. Like mentioned earlier, chances are it is a tough market, and if you aren't really passionate about it then posting content and becoming an authority will be difficult.

I can not stress any of this enough. I love my latest site because I focused on my biggest hobby. I have some great ideas and look forward to implementing them. You will be able to shoot out content faster, become more of an authority, enjoy it a lot more, and your creative mind will expand with ideas for ways to generate traffic and money.

Nicely written TJ, I know a lot of newbies get hung up on choosing a niche.

Very helpful tutorial. I think I've been following your method in head already. Now I'll write it down. I'm still struggling to come up my niche. I'm torn between one that I know a fair bit about (guitars) and one that I'm probably more passionate about, but am also intimidated by because of the high quality of writing. (Short Stories). I'm not sure I'm a great reviewers of literature (i'm more of a writer than a critic) so I'm not sure if I'll be that good at reviews.

whoa, tough decisions!
The second one does sound a bit scary, as I too would much rather write and be critiqued then critique someone else.

For your guitar niche, were you planning on focusing on different types of guitars and accessories, or guitar lessons or...?

different types of guitars and accessories. I was gung ho on the guitar site initially, but then I started thinking about creating content for it I lost my enthusiasm. I've only ever owned two guitars and I'm not really a gadget freak. I don't have any effect pedals. So it might be hard for me to say "this new gadget is awesome". I'm more interested in playing the guitar and song writing. I think this is my big problem: I'm a creator and not a natural salesperson or critic. It's hard to imagine creating a profitable blog based on my true passions because they're thing I make. Anyway sorry I'm rambling a bit.

Ramble Away. I understand your frustrations. I am glad you are thinking these things through before jumping on board with a niche. Since you yourself do not own all these high-tech gadgets or many guitars, perhaps you could put a guitar site for beginners. Kind of the essentials, where to start, what tools you should begin with.
When I started playing guitar I was hooped. I just wanted to play the songs right away, and it took a couple years before I realized starting from the very basics was the best root to go.
You can't rush things, and many people need to be told that.

Perhaps as you write content and gain authority you will start buying more gadgets and accessories, and you can expand your site.

You could spend a day looking for the perfect 'pedal' and test them all out and write down your thoughts on them. You then could write a review, and tell about the one you thought was best. I am sure you could find a site that relates to selling accessories and become an affiliate.

Sorry, now I am rambling on!

Funny you said beginners. That was my first plan. I should probably stick to that. That might be my take on it. It might be refreshing for people to hear someone who isn't a gadget freak. Hmm...thanks for the help. I just looked at your profile and saw your from Saskatchewan. I'm in Ontario, but I have a some great friends from Regina. I've been called an honorary Saskie. There's a CBC news video of me screaming my head off outside the Skydome when the Riders beat the Bombers in the greycup a few years back. I called in sick the next day, not know I'd be on the national new that night!

That is a great story!
Glad you are a riders fan. I am not sure what part of Ontario you are from, but with Ottawa getting the Redblacks, do you think you will cheer for them?

Best of luck with your niche! Feel free to ask any questions or share any progress!
