On this page we are going to choose some specifications. The images resulting from these specs will give us a listing that will fit, more closely, what we are looking for and eliminate what we are not interested in at this time.

At the top we are asked to insert what we want to find. That is 'water'. We can add other word that qualify it a bit more, like "flowing water'.

Now we are ready to narrow down results. I have entered specs from the drop down in each section. I chose

  • image size - 640x 480
  • colours- any colour
  • type of image - photo
  • region- France (or any other country of your choice
  • safe search, filtering explicit results
  • type of file- JPEG
  • usage rights- free to use and share even commercially

I will add that 'usage rights' allows you to eliminate any images that require a licence or permission to use.

At the bottom right of the page is the button Advanced Search(not shown here). Click

I have no problem finding pictures I can use legally, the issue is getting them into a format in which they are usable on my posts - for example do I need to copy/paste them to a document, convert them to pdf then convert them to a jpeg.? this is what Ive done but I cant edit them enough so that they fit proportionally onto my post page

I suggest using GIMP - you should be able to download the image files and then convert whatever format they are into .jpeg via GIMP, which is also a great graphics editor that is free.

do I have to install the GIMP program itself?

When you get your image from Google, you can edit it for size, and colour adjustments etc by importing it into pixlr.com a free online photo editor.
