We All Need to Comply With the EU Cookie Directive

The EU cookie directive applies to everyone who's website can be accessed by people in Europe.

This means all of us

Even if you are not targeting Europe your website can still be seen there. All affiliate links send your visitors to websites which use cookies.

If you have Google Analytics, social share buttons, a shopping cart or similar plugin then the plugin is using cookies on your website. So it can apply to us even if we don't realize that a plugin is doing it. I'd rather be safe than sorry. "I didn't know the gun was loaded" is no excuse.

Also, if you have Google Adsense then Google uses cookies on your website unless people have opted out in their browser settings. If you have Adsense and don't comply then you run the risk of Google closing your Adsense account.

The Plugin

I've installed a great plugin which is almost ready to go as soon as it's activated but I suggest you do a bit of tweaking as shown in the video. You can also tweak the color settings if you wish. The plugin in called 'Cookie Notice' by dFactory, its free from the WordPress repository and installed in the usual way.

The banner disappears when someone clicks on OK. It's pretty cool!
