Email marketing, also known as opt-in marketing, is likely the most stable and long-term revenue generating technique on the Internet. Email marketing is the collection of an email address and or other attributes (name, country, etc) in exchange for something. For example, someone may be willing to give you their email address and name in exchange for a course on "making money online"...or to sign-up to a newsletter with the hottest dating tips. Could be anything really!

In this day and age, consumers are inundated with marketing messages that work off of pure interruption. You watch your TV and then BAM...you are interrupted with commercials. You listen to the radio and you are getting the latest and greatest invention promoted to you. You open your newspaper, same thing.

Large companies can afford this method of marketing and can connect with millions of people with their big fat budgets. However, it is hard to measure the success of such campaigns, and you only have a single opportunity to make your impression felt!

Unlike traditional forms of advertising, email marketing gives you the ability to invest once to get the clients contact information, then gives you the ability to connect with this person again, and again, and again....potentially for a lifetime. Instead of paying for an ad over and over again, you only have to get the initial subscription and then you can contact the person for FREE!

You are likely to subscribe to many email marketing campaigns. For example, when you signed up to Wealthy Affiliate, did you join the offer for our free Internet Wealth Guide on our homepage?

Look familiar? When people sign-up to this form on our homepage, it gives us the ability to contact them again and again, not only with promotions, but also to offer value and insight into the Internet marketing industry.

Email marketing is actually quite simple when broken down. It works like this

(1) You ask for permission from people to join your mailing list in exchange for something (newsletter, guide, etc).

(2) They share their email address and name with you.

(3) You then have permission to offer them information and ultimately marketing promotions.

Not only do you have the opportunity to connect to this person once, as long as you keep a good standing relationship with them you can continue contacting them over and over again.

Whereas the traditional type of advertising, even Pay-Per-Click (PPC), only allowed you to contact someone once in order to recoup the money spent on advertising, you now have multiple chances to generate returns.

Below is an outline of the "flow" of email marketing:

Website Visitor ----> gives permission in exchange for something ------> Joins YOUR LIST------> YOU offer info and promotions
------> YOU MAKE $$$$$

Email marketing is the single most effective way of marketing online. There are three factors that contribute to this.

(1) Pay once, contact forever

Now this is really cool. Unlike your typically PPC or article marketing campaign, with the incorporation of email marketing you have the opportunity to contact people over and over again. You essentially work to get the lead once (the initial cost, whether it is time or money), then you can contact them over and over again...for FREE.

Let's look at an example. Say you pay $0.50 to get someone to your page via a pay-per-click campaign. The person comes, doesn't buy anything and leaves. You never get to see this person again.

Say you had a form (like ours) on your page that allowed people to sign-up to your email list in exchange for something

(2) Can be applied to any niche

One thing that email marketing has on some other marketing methods is that it can be done within any niches. Sure, you can make money within most niches with other marketing techniques, but email marketing allows you to cross-promote relevant products to a niche as you have on going communication with your subscribers.

If someone is interested in weight loss, they may be interested in a George Foreman grill. If someone is interested in a bird feeder, they are likely interested in bird feed. Having an email list gives you this opportunity. Any industry, any niche...you can build a list within it!

(3) Automated

You know the old Ronco commercial slogan "set it and forget it"? Well, this is appropriate for the email marketing world. Once you get a system in place that is converting visitors into leads, and leads into customers, it is all about scaling about your campaign. Once you get traffic converting within your sequence, it will always convert.

There are tools (that we will be discussing) that allow you to automate the whole process. Email marketing can become hands free and once you have a formula in place that yields a positive ROI, you having an automated "money making" system in place!

We will be getting into much more detail as the guide continues.

The emails that Kyle discussed, do we create them? Or does the service we decide on do the work? I guess I am not completely understanding this concept.

It works like this: You choose an autoresponder email program. You either place an embedded form somewhere on your site, usually in the sidebar where people enter their email address, or you can have a pop-up that asks people to enter their email address. You usually offer something in return for the email address like a free guide, a weekly or monthly newsletter, a list of some kind, a free Ebook if you have one, even just updates on certain topics or posts...it can be anything of value that people would be willing to trade their email address for. The program you are using usually sends out a generic email that you typically have created, thanking them for signing up and sends out whatever you have decided to give them. You create everything, but you schedule your autoresponder program to send it out to people on your list. From there, you can create newsletters, guides, etc. and mail them out periodically to those who have signed up. You can usually include affiliate links in your emails or you can get them to click on links back to your sight to read new posts or pages that contain affiliate links (or not). Either way, it's a way to keep them coming back to your site and it gives you way to market to them from time to time. In summary, you create the emails, but your program sends them out for you.

Thank you for the info! It is much appreciated! One other question, how much time should pass before anyone on my list -(currently I don't have any people), receive these additional emails?
Reply
LindaKwas Premium
I believe that would be up to you, but you certainly don't want it to spam them. A lot of people do a weekly newsletter or campaign, some do something monthly, and some even less often. I really don't know what I am going to do yet, as I don't have this added to my site yet. I had a site at one time and had an email list. Sending out anything more than once a month was too much for me. I just didn't have time to do it any more than that.
However, in this training guide, Kyle may suggest something different. I am just getting started on this guide as well. And i am not really sure I knew how to to this correctly before. I believe the main thing to remember is not to spam people, so you do not want to be doing it every day.

Personally, I would use the SiteRubix blogs inside WA because there are actually WordPress plugins for creating squeeze pages, from what I remember. And yeah, either use a free siterubix subdomain name or buy one using SiteDomains at a competitive price for your page.

I hope this helps.

Is it easy to change email lists from one autoresponder to another? A lot of autoresponders seem to have a trial period - I wonder if its possible to take advantage of the trial period and then move to the trial period of another autoresponder when its ended etc. until I find an autoresponder I am happy with? Thanks
Reply
Caraid Premium
I would recommend that you use a couple of your own email addresses initially to trial the services out. You really don't want to start playing leap frog too often with providers once you have genuine people on your list.

You can import your existing list into Getresponse and Aweber now without getting your subscribers to have to re-confirm their subscriptions. I am afraid I don't have any experience with any of the other providers. It might be an idea to test out those that offer a free trial initially so that you have some knowledge to base your decisions on.

Is there a way around to not disclosing your private home address thats seen by all email subscribers? I know in the UK one can get a business address and pay for it on a monthly/yearly basis - anyone have experience and recommendations on best providers? Otherwise, apart from this method - is there any other way? If not, maybe I should just depend on social media to build a following? Thanks

Here in the U.S. you can get a Post Office Box. It is relatively inexpensive.
Reply

It is a requirement to provide a business/postal address as part of nospam policies which must be clearly visible on all email.

You could try ukmailboxdirect dot co.uk if all you want is a mail address with perhaps mail forwarding. They are one of the more reasonably priced solutions. Also their locations do not look too bad. By that I mean that many such businesses seem to operate in run down locations which is not the sort of impression you want to give when people look up your address on Google maps.

It is required you put an address.
Like JVanDerLaan suggested, you can use a P.O. Box.

Reply
AlexSol Premium
Never heard of it.
The most trusted autoresponders on the market are Aweber, Mailchimp, iContact and GetResponse. I highly recommend going with one of these.

Over the years I have tried about a dozen of different companies and most are pretty horrible. Sometimes you manage to build a list of 500 then realize that the company is only delivering 50 emails... because you get what you pay for.

I am currently using MailChimp and you can use them free (no automation), and their automation plans start at $10 per month which is dirt cheap for such high quality service. You can also get $30 in free credits with your first $10 purchase if you go through someone's affiliate link.

Hi Camille
You can also take a look at Benchmark Email. They have been great for me, free plan up to 2,000 subscribers to help you get going. They are comparable to the popular paid options and have really nice features for their beginner free plan. Just my thoughts...Traffic Wave I am sure is ok, but their focus is not auto responders, so I would stick with those whose focus is email AR.

All my best

Kyle, again you have put this whole thing in the right perspective. It's always about giving, and giving. And behind this, there is just offering unconditional Love. So this has to be behind all true marketing efforts. So we are just totally jazzed to have found WA because that Love is at the very heart and soul of this program. Hope we can learn what we need to learn to make this offering effective and helpful.

Thanks so much Kyle, this is "our true North" also, as Tonisio remarked. We purchased 1,200 leads for $1,000.00 from a company called Home Business Success Academy in April of last year, to market a relatively new and unique health product called Protandim, which is marketed in an MLM business structure. We did this because we had no idea how to get leads on our own, and we do not have a lot of friends or family to contact.

But, after contacting hundreds of these leads, we found that they are not interested at all in what we have to offer. The leads targeted people who have an interest in starting their own home business, with a health orientation. We know now that we failed mainly because we didn't do any real follow-up. Maybe two or three emails and a phone call or a text.

We have the ability to shut off the flow of these leads and we did this several months ago, and we still have several hundred that are still owed to us. So we are going to design an email campaign to market WA to these leads, both the hundreds that we have already contacted about the Protandim, and turn on the flow of the leads still owed us.

So we really need all the help we can get to design an effective email campaign to offer the WA program to these prospects. We are open to any ideas or suggestions or help from anyone.

Thanks,
Veanna & Dennis.

Purchasing leads is never a good idea. You have no idea of their history. You might be able to mine them for information if you are lucky but they are probably not relevant to what you are trying to do.
Reply
Veanna Premium
Yes, we're afraid this is just the plain facts of purchasing leads. We didn't know how else to proceed with getting our message "out there" at the time. Learning everything we needed to know to get organic search results didn't seem possible or practical at the time. So purchasing leads "seemed" the logical choice.

So now we have this great gift to offer from the WA University of Online Marketing, and we are following the lessons given and trying to build our own affiliate website. But we still need help marketing to these purchased leads. Or just count it is a lesson learned. We are not willing yet to just throw them away. So any help toward this end would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Send them affiliate offers in the health-related home business niche. If you can explain how they might market your product within a home business they might respond to that.
Be sure to set up your autoresponder to start building your email list of active responders.

Reply

Get response will give you a 30 day trial period. I'm almost to level 3 and there has not been any training on email marketing. You can have a free email plugin with up to 2000 on your mailing list, but I'm not sure how the autoresponder works as far as for an email drip system. Depending on the affiliate program you are wanting to run, the company will provide swipe email copy that you can just paste into your autoresponder. If it is for your own business you will want to draft response emails for up to at least 20-30 days to add before opening an account. Focus on setting up campaign for the web form and copy code into the sidebar of your wp website first then set up autoresponder. Hope that helps...

Get response has a 30 day trial period and no credit card is required to start with them. There terminology is a little harder to wrap your head around, but just focus on creating a campaign, for your email for for your website, then load your autoresponder with sequential emails for at least 20 days. The objective is to get the reader to take action, so include links to website, affiliate programs, etc. Nice system, but I link the custom call to action feature for button available through aweber. Have fun :)

It use to be in the past that you would not want to use HTML emails because not everyone could view a fancy looking email/newsletter. Are those days really gone now? Can most all systems read and see a pretty HTML newsletter with a graphic header as an incoming email?

I don't believe those days are gone. But there are more fundamental criteria for choosing the best email campaign such as using a free campaign or a paid one. The general consensus is that the free one is severely limited. And the top two in discussion is GetResponse and AWeber (which WA uses). Once you decide whether to go free or paid, you will find all those other tech questions will fall into place as the good companies will have good newsletter templates for you. In fact, there are a lot of discussion here about the newsletter campaign. But typing in the question slot in the top middle of the homepage, you should be able to access it. Blessings and wisdom....

Hi Sim. What do you mean by WA site? I am assuming you are using WordPress, and if so I can help you. There is a WordPress plug-in called AWeber Web Forms. You can find this by going to your plugins page, clicking Add New at the top, and searching for the title of the plugin. Once activated, follow the instructions provided to connect it with your AWeber account, and then you can add a form of your choice by going to Appearance --> Widgets, and dragging the AWeber Web Forms widget into the widget area of your choice. Your site is live if you can visit it without logging into the backend. For example, if your site is ilovecheese.com, type that into your browser and if it works, your site is live!

The best buddy stage is very important to me! It was the number one reason I left contacting my friends until last. I first had to believe before I convience my friends because I don't want anything to happen to them that would cause them a financial set-back. They trust me and trust is not something to take lightly. I believe in WA, therefore; I sent the email letter to my friends!

I had a question about why we should use aweber.com rather than use godaddy since it also had email opportunities. I now know the answer to my question: aweber is better for what we need to do!

Anyone had experience with using 1AutomationWiz as their autoresponder? Wonder how it compares with AWeber (other than costing $59 a month). I'd like to switch to AWeber, but don't know if I can easily transfer my campaigns to them. Advice? DukeW

Thanks Kyle, before joining up I had some ideas and was going to spend a lot of time and money getting them up and running by myself. After doing some quality research with the tools here I've realised I was going to struggle. So thanks for saving me time and money. Cheers, John, New Zealand.

This is good, its all coming together now. Just a note,,, the autoresponder almost kept me away from the wealthy affiliate. The reason was, I asked in an e-mail to respond to a key phrase..... It did not answer appropriatly and i cont. to research. Until I got the answers I needed to hear. so my question is "should we actually say that we are reading these e-mails ? (when using the auto-responder ) ?

Love this. Because we already trust WA and are invested, it is easy to suggest something like Aweber. Not a bad thing at all. This tells me that WA practices what it preaches. It is refreshing to see the techniques at work.

For example, some keywords of my campaign are: "maintenance management software", "maintenance software", "scheduling software" and I think what would be better in this case for people who arrive to my page trough those keywords:

-give them the option for download and evaluate my software or
-given them a pdf guide after the opt in in my list?

Just wondering. Thanks!

Hi everyone, will email marketing work with software that needs to be downloaded and evaluated?

My product is a software for fleet maintenance, can this technique help me grow my sales?

@Dad...another popular autoresponder service is getresponse.com. We have used them both but we do prefer aweber. I agree that aweber is not perfect, but they are pretty good compared to everything else out there and they offer a robust service.

It sounds like a money machine! But I agree with Michael-a visual would be great;
and with Wald-there's no graphic~haven't seen one yet anywhere I've been.
Good thing I'm legally blind 'cause that's how I'm flying here!
