Start by going to Gravatar.com, select GET YOUR AVATAR TODAY. Enter your email, and click on SIGNUP. You will be sent a confirmation email and you will need to verify your email.
Back at the Gravatar site you will need to enter a USERNAME (must be available) and PASSWORD. Now click on SIGN UP. Your Gravatar is directly linked to your email. When you go into a wordpress site to leave a comment you must use the email associated with your Gravatar for your picture to show.

if your website is based around you as well, you can always double the gravatar with the favicon...cool stuff, and yes the gravatar does make it personal..
