Take the time to understand the requirements of the FTC disclosure expectations. The above booklet walks you through the expectations and the Appendix has examples that can help you hone in on what you need to do.

Remember that our sites ranking is affected by whether we are mobile friendly or not, so addressing how a consumer accesses the disclosure from the smaller screens of smart phones and tablets is an important consideration.

Here is what I am doing now. This may prove be ineffective because a consumer may not click to read what should be a 'clear and conspicuous' FTC disclosure. After all folks can bounce in and out of our sites and just may not take time to read an Affiliate Disclosure.

As you see I have mine out of the footer and as a menu item on my home page.

Time will tell if this serves my needs and that of my audience. I will be checking if the menu choice is ever clicked on to determine that insight.

Your great website is on its way now. Keep at this and get one more thing done. One more thing keeps you in action and that means progress!

ONward and UPward keeps us moving FORward!

I hope you have found this helpful and if you have let me know by clicking 'like'.

Of course, if you have questions get them rolling in the comments and I will address it for you.

My link is in my sidebar, but on the bottom. Wonder if I need to move it to the top, or at least closer to the top.

Hey Chris,

I think that in the side-bar is a good idea because it will go along with the items you may be recommending to folks. The key is to make sure it is 'clear and conspicuous'. My gut is saying I'd rather it be closer to the top than buried if you will in the flow of your side-bar widgets.

Does this help?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Maybe right under my subscribe and search fields.

Hi Linda,

Thank you for this important tutorial. I have not got an affiliate disclosure on my sites, so I am now worried. Is there a template that I can use to create one?

Lis.

Loes created this tutorial that has some language that can be a cut and paste. I recommend reading it with an eye to make sure it fits what you are doing on your site.

Hope this helps.

Thank you, Brian, for taking a look. Guess I should have found a catchy title for this cause it hasn't captured much interest. I wrote the training because I felt it would be a good resource for folks who are trying so hard but may not have gotten it right.

Ah well, lesson learned.

I appreciate your feedback!

Linda
