And fact is, a natural backlink profile usually has a considerable number of nofollow links.

Still, most links on the web are still dofollow!
Why? Well, nofollow links do not pass any value ... Now imagine that all your links are nofollow. And they all have the same link quality. There is no domain authority. How would search engines evaluate your site?
