OK, you have chosen your site URL, your site name and your theme. Now what?

BUILD!

You should now be on the page to build your actual site. This is basically a page that shows you preview of what you have just specified you wanted your site to look like. If everything looks good to you, the next step is going to be clicking the"Build Website" button.

Upon clicking this button it will take 30 or so seconds to install and build your site for you. Once the engine is done churning together your site, you are going to get a pop-up that will give you all the "Details" for your site.

This gives you your website URL (where you can find it online) as well as your login details to the WP Adminstration area of your site (where you go to edit your site).

Your Website = The LIVE URL
Administration Page = Where you go to log into your admin
Username: The username you use for admin
Passowrd: The password you use to log in

Here is my example "iPhone 5 Cases" site if you want to check it out...

That is it. You are all set-up. In the next lesson I am going to give you a quick overview of how you can manage your sites.

Can I do my website on an iPhone?
Reply

Doing your website on your phone will be very challenging, but it could be done. I highly recommend you create your website through a computer preferably, so you could see everything that is going on.

That would be very hard to do.

So if my niche is around domestic violence is domestic violence an ok name??
Reply
sharonwhyte Premium
Ummm I guess. Does it sound too direct. Not sure? What I suggest as welll now you can access Live Chat. Go in there say Hi I am new and ask in there

Say you are new and doing a niche around domestic violence. People will give you some ideas to think about. That is what I love about the Live Chat. People help out. So give that a try and see what others think as well. Good to get others perspective

Maybe something around what you'd like to accomplish with your site? Like "endingdomesticviolence" or "domesticviolenceeducation"?

Does the website name matter a lot? Does the name have to be 99% relevant to the niche or I can name it however I like and it will still be found by the audience that I´m targeting?

Relevant is better.

Just to clarify, do I just need to select a color theme/style that suits the product I am marketing and I need not take into consideration the features I would like to have? E.g. having a comment section at the bottom of the page. Do I add that in later?
Thanks
Reply
Michelle04 Premium
You may want to experiment with different themes until you get one that you like. Most allow you to make changes with colors and what not to suit your style. Many themes have comment sections at the bottom too, but that is something you would want to look for when you try out a theme as well.

If I'm understanding this correctly, you can complete your website and change the theme? How does this work... all the content of the website you've created remains but the layout / theme changes?
Reply
Arka Premium
This is all ok. But doing this job suffers from a major drawback. Every image, every post that you created can suffer from severe disorientation. What I mean is that the layout can change drastically which will then need a lot of work over to look them as they are wanted to be.
Reply
kamali Premium
Yes, you can change your theme by logging into the wordpress account. Then going to appearance -> themes -> then select the theme you want to use.

If your old and new themes are similar you won't have to worry about much in terms of changes.

If the themes are significantly different (three columns going to one column) then some tweaking may be required.

Hope this helps :)

Should we be choosing a theme that is responsive in design or does that really matter? If it does, how do you know which ones are responsive without clicking into the details, that would take too much time! Is there an easier way to spot them?
Reply
Carson Premium
All themes are going to work on mobile devices such as iPads, iPhones, Android tablets etc. Whether the site is responsive or not, the user is going to be able to view 100% of your website just fine. For tablets, the responsive aspects of a theme will not be used because the screens are large enough. For phones, the responsive aspects will kick in, but people are so used to non-responsive sites that they will be just fine either way.

Choose your theme based on what works for you and your niche. Choose a clean looking theme that is free from distractions and fancy graphics. The best theme is the one that people don't notice...where 100% of their attention is on the content. If it's responsive, that's fine. If it's not responsive, that is also just fine.

So, the answer is that "it doesn't matter" if the theme is responsive or not :)

Hi guys do you know how to add Javascript/ HTML codes into your Wordpress Express? Normally there should be a HTML Javascript adder under Appearance/Widgets . Is that an extra plugin that I have to install?
Reply
kamali Premium
For HTML this would be when you're editing posts or pages.

In the editor u have two views. Visual and text. ....for coding instructions you want to be in the "text" tab
Reply
gameon Premium
Oh no I mean if I want to add some stuff on the sidebar and I have my own javascript code to add...normally there should be a "HTML Javascript Adder" plugin under Appearance/Widgets. I guess this is an extra plugin that I have to install? But I have to be a premium to do it I suppose?
Reply
Kyle Premium
Appearance => Widgets

Then add a "Text" widget into your side bar. You will be able to add your JS code directly in there.

I'm not Kyle.. but if you want to see the title of your site you need to go to your dashboard then setting from setting you need to click general setting and from there you can write the name of you site. Don't forget to save it when your done...Nenita

This will all be covered, but you don't need to worry about these at the moment. One foot in front of the other, you are not going to master Wordpress overnight. I have some brandNewbies on my mind, people I would like to introduce to
WA. I think they will start with the free option, and I think they would be interested in building a website here.

I thought that free people could use the build website function for one or two sites. No? I see "Build Website" is listed under premium services.

Yeah, they can build 2 websites for free. It is just listed under the premium services, but Starter members most definitely have access to 2 free websites. :)

Am i crazy or should i be thinking of a niche that doesn't involve selling a product that i don't have if you get what i mean?
Reply
Kyle Premium
There are always products you can promote within any niche, so I would not be too concerned about this. When you get to this step where you start promoting products, this will make much more sense, but just know that there is always a wide array of products/services and associated affiliate programs within any niche.

The free website is awesome but does affiliate program like amazon approve affiliate using this sites.

Absolutely. If your site is relevant it will get approved on any of the major networks. Amazon doesn't have a stringent approval process so you will get approved with them without much issue.

I can't find my questions about blogs vs websites and posts vs pages.. Sorry if this is a repeat. Is the website to be designed to be informational? If I want to put up site about say natural healing, do I put up a generic website with different pages on different themes and then break them down to posts or blogs? What is the difference between blogs and webpages other then cost of hosting (if not using WA) for webpages. I know that blogs can go in auto-responders. Need to know how to design webpage before I start creating it. Thanks
Reply
Kyle Premium
They key is to help people within your site. If your only reason to sell stuff to people you are going to have a difficult time. Help people and build a relationship, the selling component becomes much easier.

A blog is a component of a website...it is basically rolling content. The term "blog" and "website" are often used to define someone's website (the same thing) though.

Level 2 training here is based on traffic and will walk you through the Pages and Posts difference.

The beginning steps are clear. However, once the site is live, I need more instruction. Each theme is different. I have many questions. How do you ad adsense ads to the site? How to create a static front page? What if you don't want dates? How do you size photos to fit? Is the "menu" the way to create navigation to inside pages? Do you have a video or step-by-step training like this for after the site is live? Thanks!
Reply
Kyle Premium
Yeah, this is included within your First 10 training. This training is just to show you how to get your free site up and running, there is other training on "what to do" with your website once it is live.

Here is one that I created:

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/make-money-with-wordpress-traffic-getting-revenue-driving-forces

Within the search bar here at WA you can also search for many "Wordpress" training tutorials. Of course, if you have any specific issues after this, let me know and I can give you a hand.

Great add for WA! You guys keep evolving, and it is awesome. How easy it is now for someone to get their first site online and learn the ropes without spending any money on domains and stuff. You guys kick arse!
Reply
Kyle Premium
Yeah, that is the absolute goal...to take some of the major initial hurdles and risks out of getting rolling. I think that once people see that they can do this by getting to touch and feel something (in this case there own site), it will lead to much greater forward progress!

Thanks for your feedback!

Kyle,
You have explained and illustrated this very well. Thank you. I am going to share this with my new WAer. It will help him tremendously. This resource is also something I can use to show someone who is thinking about trying the 10-day free trial, but needs encouragement as to how easy it is to create a website.
I am glad you are offering free websites. This will give me a place where I can take the time I need to convert one of my big 'old Site Rubix' sites. I checked my 'old' Site Rubix site out on a mobile device and it needs some cosmetic help.
Thanks again for the efforts you and Carson put into WA. You really demonstrate your passion to help all of us succeed. George

You should definitely start moving moving your old site over to a new framework. There are many sites (wordpress themes) now that have mobile versions which is great if a good deal of your traffic is from mobile devices.

Thanks for your feedback. and your appreciation. We are and will always continue to evolve WA to become better and better to members.

Very nice breakdown Kyle. Its all so easy to set up really. In regards to the themes available are the best ones listed first or just a jumble that one has to sift through to see what themes are relevant?
Reply
Kyle Premium
Typically the most current themes are the ones on the first couple of pages. You can go through and favourite your best themes if you like. Just because they are on the first page does not mean they are the "best" themes, but it means they are some of the latest.
