I needed to create a map with three locations for a site I am working on. My first step was to search WA and see if anyone had done this. I found an excellent blog showing how someone had done this on their contact page. But I needed to go a step further to add two more locations. And then I decided I wanted to make custom icons to match the color in the logo.

How to fix map to have a desired zoom level? Also most of the time when I embed link I just get the world map, only by chance I get the map of the area I want. So I never know what I shall get. Any idea? I have been using some other map source where it was easy to fix this.

That is odd. And you are marking the locations when creating the map on Google Maps? If the map has markers it should be showing you that section after it is embed on your site.
For the zoom, I am honestly not sure. I know after I put it on the website, the viewer is given an option to zoom as it is an interactive map. You could check in the Google maps help pages. That is actually how I learned I could make the custom markers.
