Create a Favicon

Now you know what a Favicon is you will probably want to create one for yourself.

So how do you get your own Favicon? There are many online Favicon generators just Google 'favicon online' and you'll find millions of Favicon websites.

I use IcoFX which was originally freeware but the full installable version is now shareware. You can get a free download trial version from filehippo to try for 30 days OR you can go to portableapps and get it as a portable app FREE. Yes, if you haven't tried Portable Apps you're in for a treat, all you need is a decent sized USB flash-drive and you can have heaps of software which you don't even need to install in your computer as they run directly from the flash-drive. You can use Portable Apps on someone else's computer without leaving a trace. Perfect if you use a computer at the library or an internet cafe.

But I digress. If you have a logo you may be able to reduce that to favicon size using either an online Favicon generator or the portable app version of IcoFX. If you are branding yourself as an expert in your field you can use a close-up photo. Or choose an image that represents what your website is about.

Start IcoFX.exe and open the file you want to use as your Favicon. Be sure to use a .png file so that it already has transparency.
