The power of scroll - above the fold
First, focus on your ‘above the fold’. If you’re unfamiliar with the term, it is the upper part of your post/front page readers can see without scrolling down.
Most online users scroll up and down looking for valuable information. Above the fold is important because only 20% of online users read below the fold.
Think of it as a carrot that will entice your visitors to read further. Include the following crucial and recommended elements in your ‘above the fold’:
- Crucial: Provide information you hinted in your effective headline (the main keywords) – announce that detailed explanations follow in the rest of your post and get them to scroll down,
- Recommended: Briefly present additional details that your readers find useful (secondary keywords) and elaborate on these below the fold,
- Recommended: A graphic element (photo, diagram, illustration, infographic…) to make it more appealing.
It goes without saying, your identity elements (logo, site name and navigation) should be visible on top.
